ALOPECIA is broad medical term for hair loss or baldness. Hair loss affects over 60 millions men and women in America alone. At this point, there is no cure for hair loss. There are, however, medications that can slow down the progression of hair loss or generate small to moderate regrowth. Some of the more common medications are Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). Both are FDA approved medications for hair loss in men. For those who desire a more aggressive option, they can try dutasteride or even spironolactone. However, whatever you decide to do for your condition, please be sure to do that under the supervision of your doctor. Also, bear in mind that these treatments can manage the condition but they are not cures. While the society has generally accepted male baldness, female hair loss is usually regarded as rare and unusual. However, statistics have shown that women hair loss is just as common as the male counterparts. Some suggest that about 50% of the women will report some form of hair loss or thinning hair by the time they reach 50 years of age. The US FDA approved minoxidil 2% as a treatment for women hair loss. Other than that, there are not that many options for women. Most women have to resort to their doctors for other options that are lesser known to the general public, eg: Aldactone (spironolactone), Diane35, Androcur etc. Here we discussed the different types of Alopecia that are commonly reported by the general public. Androgenetic alopecia, traction alopecia, scarring alopecia, alopecia areata, alopecia universalis, and alopecia totalis. Other Stories
