| HAIRSITE'S REVIEW |
- You should order the reading materials if you want more details
about the treatments. As a summary, treatments discussed in Spence-Comm's reading
materials (which are fewer than 10 pages) are:
- Proscar - a brand name drug manufactured by Merck. The generic
name of the drug is called finasteride. The drug is intended for people with benign
prostate enlargement. However, studies have shown that the drug also reduces the formation
of DHT, which is known to be the main culprit for hair loss. Although the drug has not yet
obtained FDA approval to treat hair loss, many people are already rushing to try Proscar
at their own risks. Proscar is an oral medication and can be purchased with doctor's
prescription only.
- Saw Palmetto - a natural herb derived from saw palmetto
berries. It is speculated that the herb, when taken orally, will also reduce the formation
of DHT. The herb is normally taken for people with prostate problems. In fact, many people
speculate that saw palmetto has similar effects as Proscar. Saw palmetto can be found in
any health food store. It is a dietary supplement and thus not regulated by the FDA.
- Pygeum Africanum - similar to saw palmetto. Can be found in
health food stores.
