Medication Induced Hairloss (Accutane or Medications Induced Hair Loss)

So..you can re grow after stopping certain mediacations? I take something to help me sleep and I think that could be a contributor to my hairloss.

I'm stopping it just in case. The problem is I don't know if that was the real culprit. I've had so many other things, too.

Hi Rae,

Me too. I quit a medication about a week ago thinking it might be causing my HL, but I'm not positive if the medication is the culprit or not, I too have so many things going on right now, so I don't know what to do.

How has your shedding been so far since quitting the medication?

Well..I quit it for two days. But someone on her said that particular med does not cause HL. And to be quite frank..I need it. With everything going on that's negative in my life right now..it's the only thing that helps. So, I'm taking it again. I think my issue is hormonal. I think I'm still recovering from stress/low iron and a poor diet. The hair I do see coming in..everyone tells me it's healthy hair. So..I don't really know what is making my hair do what it's doing. I'm going to use Nioxin..faithfully. But I also just ordered Revivogen in one of my dark hours of HL madness. So, I'm going to give that a go, too.

Let me know how it works for you.

It's been over a week since I took the medication, so far there hasn't been a BIG improvement because I'm still shedding a lot. Someone said it can take around 3 months for the shedding to stop IF it was medication induced. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stops sooner than 3 months. I was thinking too, that maybe this HL could be caused from some stress that's been going on in my life for the past couple of months. First, a close friend of mine is moving away (she lived next door), well, she left today :-( . Second, another close friend of mine is getting a divorce from her husband. This was fast and sudden, and quite a shock to me because I was friends with them both! So I don't know if this is contributing to the HL or not.

Medication Induced Hairloss

Thank you so much for the info! I'm going crazy over this hair loss!
I have taken Prozac for a few years and haven't noticed the loss before.
In the pas few months I have started taking Lyrica (for neuropathy) also Crestor for my cholesterol and Toporol for angina. I have taken Premarin for years. I also take Diovan for blood pressure.

I'm ready to stop the Premarin, and Prozac, if they are the culprits. Maybe even the Crestor and start eating properly! I also take Prevacid, which I'm sure I could stop, and again, watch what I eat.

Could you please tell me which of these medications might be causing my hair loss?

Thanks so much.

The premarin isn't causing the HL if anything it would be the blood pressure or Crestor but the most likely cause is menopause. Have your estradiol level checked and if it's well below 100 that's why you're losing your hair.
