new to website (Doctors & Dermatologists)

This is my first time on this site and was wondering where to begin. I have noticed my hair thinning for about 2 years now. Who would be the best person to see? A dermatologist? A different type of doctor? Please point me in the right direction.

Go to an endocrinologist. They know about hormones.

You should see a dermatologist, specifically one who specializes in women's hairloss. That doctor will/should run several blood tests. But, be sure to get copies of all of your blood work with the "normal" ranges included. You can post your results at this website and the wonderful ladies here will help you determine if they really are normal. These "normal" ranges may not be normal for you. Depending on what you doctor tells you about your hairloss, then go tho that forum at this site. For example, if the doc tells you your hair loss is due to low ferritin (iron), then go to the anemia forum at this site for any questions you have. Good luck!

Go to a Dermatologist at first, but if he isn't any help than you should go to an Endocrinologist. I go to a Derm, but for something else. I asked him about my high shedding and he was no help at all. He tried telling me losing 70 strands of hair after shampooing was normal, maybe it's normal for some, but it's not normal for me. So my next step is to see my Endocrinologist.

Caveat to that....my endo (both of them actually) will send you to the gyn for any HRT or BCPS. They don't want to monitor you for any issues that hormones might cause. My gyn didn't like the idea of the bcp my endo proposed. Sex hormones seem to be the domain of the gyn, not the endo. At least in my experience. I was very disappointed. I have two gyns and two endos and I am still at a loss.
