Note to self (Anemia & Hair Loss) |
Blackstrap molasses made my sebroheicc dermatitis worse. Now I think I finally found the trigger to my SD. To much sugar! I used the blackstrap for 2 days, in those 2 days I have had thick patches of SD. Nothing I have ever experienced before. Has anyone experience this?

Could it be your scalp issue is yeast instead of SD? If so, the increase in sugar intake would have caused it to flare even more. You might want to google candida and see if you have any other signs of it.

Thanks deb, I totally forgot about candida, till you mentioned it. I have a script for diflucan. I will try that and see if it helps. 2 weeks ago I had a vaginal yeast infection. My gyno said it is really common when the humidity rises. I used a vaginal cream, and I noticed the first 2 days when I would brush my hair, my shed slowed down. Like 5 in my brush and 10 while styling. compared to 20 in my brush and another 20 when styling. So there might be a connection. I will try the diflucan and let you guys know!

I suffer from psoriasis and have found exactly the same. Initially my scalp was so bad that my derm thought I had lupus. I was fed up with using the creams/shampoos (they had little effect anyway) so did some research and changed my diet....the changes were remarkable. I am now left with just a few minor patches here and there and if I eat anything sugary or strangely tomatoes, peppers/spicy food it flares up. I've also found that my weight does not fluctuate depending on the amount of fat I eat....it's sugar again.

Aggie, What do you mean your weight dosen't fluctuate? what does the sugar have to do with it? Forgive me for being ignorant, but I too can eat whatever I want and don't gain weight. That started 2 years ago. People make fun of me when they see the amount of food on my plate, they ask where does all that food go! Does the psoriasis have something to do with it?

I could say that you're a lucky person as I only have to look at a donut to put on weight. Saying that, there are some medical problems which can cause you not to put on weight even though you eat loads, eg. over active thyroid...have you been checked for this? I was just trying to say that in the past I've had difficulty losing weight even though I was following a low fat diet. I finally realised that it was sugar that was the problem. I cut out all refined sugar products and the weight fell off. I only have to eat a very small amount now for the weight to creep back on or my psoriasis to flare up. I read somewhere once that white sugar is a 'poison'. I suppose this is true for my body. Some days you just can't resist that bar of chocolate though can you?
