at the 2 month mark--thoughts? reassurance? waah (Rogaine, Minoxidil) |
On 6/1 I started using Rogaine 5% foam 1 x/day on the top of my head. On 7/1 I upped it to 2x/day and also started using it on the vortex. Since then, shedding has increased from around 75-80 to around 200/day, with no sign of growth. My head just looks worse and worse. The pkg. says to stop if the dread shed continues after 2 wks., but I know folks on this board would say to ignore that and stick with it for now...correct? Guess I'm just looking for reassurance, as I'm feeling pretty miserable and self-hating today. Thanks guys.

for most the dread shed can last 3-4 months and then starts to taper off. My dread shed was horrible, and I do mean horrible. It lasted around three months, and was so much hair I was astonished.
Honestly, don't expect to see any thing yet, and understand that the shed can last for 3 months or so. when it stops, it probably won't just "stop", but taper down very slowly.
Really, sweetie, as hard as it is you have to give it more time. For most people rogaine doesn't work in two months, but is like any other HL treatment and takes time.

V's experience similar to mine.... 200-300 hairs shed per day for almost five months. Lots of scalp, scary showers, hair scarves, etc... HOWEVER I am beyond happy to report, though, that my shedding started a significant slowdown 3 weeks ago. Yesterday I shed less than 50 hairs which is nothing short of a miracle for me. Hang tough.

Thanks guys. You're awesome. And congrats, Sara.
Another question: I'm applying it to the worst spots, but my shedding is thoroughly diffuse. Should I really be applying it everywhere? In that case I'd have to use a lot more than the recommended 1/2 capful, no?
Thanks again! It is so awful--I don't even want my boyfriend (for whom I just moved halfway across the country) stroking my hair; I just think about how thin it is and how much is coming out as he does it...but it is so soothing to know there are people out there who understand.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you, but 1 month further along (I'm at the 11 week mark). I, too, started with the foam once a day and bumped it up to 2 times a day after a few weeks.
I have not seen any decrease in shed. I'm still in my DS. About 10-12 days ago, I had 4 days straight of decreased shedding (about 50 hairs wash down from nearly 100) and I was very excited/about to post here. On the 5th day, the shed resumed in a big way: 90+ hairs just washing. And it's basically been that way since.
I wash every day so the amount of hair I lose is VERY significant (esp. as either none of it grows back, or grows back extremely miniaturized, like short spiderwebs). Most others who report such high wash sheds only wash every other day or every 3 days. Not me. Sigh...
I don't think we have any other choice but to stick it out and hope for the best.

If your loss is diffuse then you should be applying it everywhere. Yes you willl use more, and you will waste some, but you need to apply it all over if you have diffuse loss. Rogaine can grow hair on other part sof the scalp besides the vertex. infact, I have sprouts almost everywhere BUT the vertex....go figure.

That's great you're seeing regrowth, V...How do you know? I mean, can your see it w/ the naked eye in the mirror? I'm not seeing any yet. You've been at it about 3 mos. now, right?

I'm curious. . . HOW do you count these hairs? Do you have a microscope? Use tweezers, what? Thanks.
