Excessive hairgrowth (PCOS & Hair Loss)

I'm at my wit's end with this whole hairloss thing. I've had this problem for 8 years now and it's not getting better. I'm starting to wonder if PCOS might be something I should ask my doctors about. They've been more focused on ferritin... those who take me seriously anyway.

In the last year, I've noticed a lot more hair on my forearms and chin as well as the rest of my body. I even notice more hair on my knuckles (yes, I've checked). My horomones were checked about 2 years ago and the doctor simply said that everything was "ok". I didn't think to get the exact figures at that time. However, my periods are perfectly normal. I can almost predict what day it will come and I've never missed a period in my life.

Should I be concerned about PCOS? The excessive hairgrowth is alarming me. Please excuse my ignorance on this topic as I don't know much.

We've been discussing hormone imbalances in the Telogen forum. You might be interested in reading this entire thread and look up the links. Interesting stuff. http://www.hairsite.com/female-hair-loss/forum_entry.php?id=12823&page=0&category=32&order=time

You can google "raw diet" and read all the testimonials of females who corrected their hormone imbalances and reversed their PCOS.

The Telogen forum also has a lot of threads on Raw Diet.

My daughter and I are now eating a raw diet and seeing many benefits.

Ive had hair loss for a few years, but i never really cared at the start cos my hair was so thick - mybe if i did, i wudnt have had to see this day. But in the last 2/3 years its got worse, the shed has been higher, however like you my periods are normal, i can predict when im about to start, my doc says nothings wrong with me and im fine.
I dont think your excessive hair growth is normal, i think u shud rethink wat ur doing, cos if u continue it the excessive regrowth may get worse and mybe even lead to facial hair like men, or other side effects, then it might be too late to reverse it.

I would definitely get it checked out...excessive hair growth in a woman is not a good sign. Either you have high levels of androgens or else your body is overly sensitive to the amount you do have.

Either way an anti-androgen could help reduce the amount of unwanted hair.

I would disregard that doctor and definitely get it checked out. You may have normal lab values and still have a problem. If I sat back and believed my normal lab values I'd be bald now. Pursue it.
