HELP!!!! TEST RESULTS (Anemia & Hair Loss)

I just got my blood work test results back and feel my iron and ferritin is way to low and that is why I am lossing hair. The docotor tried to blame my high TIBC on birth control but I really feel she is wrong. Here are some results of mine.....TIBC 412 with percent of saturation 10
Ferritin 24 ng/mL
Iron 40 ug/dl
Can someone who knows a little about this tell me what they think.

I have started L-Lysine 500mg twice a day. I am going to go get an iron supplement today. What is a good amount to take? I've heard 325 mg 1 to 3 times a day. Also heard should take vitamin C and B12.

Please help!!! Thanks so much!!!!!

HELP!!!! TEST RESULTS

Hi Santa.

In 2003/4 my Ferritin was 12, and despite taking iron tablets for 4 years, it is only 62. Since my last derm realised this, he has put me on 325mg of iron. Now, on this amount i do have constipation issues as that is a side effect of too much iron.

So, my advice to you is this: start with max 325mg and see how you get on? I think there are females on here who have been on more than this amount, but i am only giving you my experience.

I started on 325mg last month and can say going to the toilet is becoming less frequent and i "feel" constipated!!!

Also, if like me you find that you are taking iron for many months but your hair loss isn't abating, then do go for further tests. It isn't unusual for low iron to kick start another type of hair loss. My derm told me that sometimes low iron can trigger genetic hair loss which was going to happen but now it's happening sooner.

If you want to go over the 325mg, i'd consult your doctor physician first.

Best of luck xox

Is that 325mg of actual iron, or a supplement containing 100mg iron. I took ferrograd that is 325mg but has elemental iron of 100mg. Iron saturations should be over 20 I believe
