Hair follicle, know your hair (Children & Teenager Hair Loss) |
Hi all. I am a dermatologist and with this posting I would like to take readers inside the hair, one of the most important parts of the human body so far as the looks are concerned.
The most noticeable part of human hair is the hair on the head, which can grow longer than on most mammals and is denser than most hair found elsewhere on the body. The average human head has about 100,000 hair follicles.
The hair follicle is a stocking-like structure that consists of several layers with different jobs. At the base of the follicle has a projection. This projection is termed papilla and it has capillaries, or tiny blood vessels, that feed the cells.
The living part is the bottom part of the stocking surrounding the papilla termed the bulb. This bottom part is the only one fed by the capillaries. The cells in the bulb divide every 23 to 72 hours, faster than any other cells in the body.
So guys take very good care of your hair and don’t ignore the problems, if any with them.

Asian hair
Asian hair is characterized by the thickness and coarseness. Asians have lower density of hair on the scalp (which is measured by the numbers of follicles per unit area of skin) - they typically have just 90,000 scalp follicles and rarely get above 120,000 scalp follicles.

» Asian hair
When you say Asian hair, do you mean Far East Asian? (china, korea, japan etc?) as i know people in the USA refer to it that way, where as i say oriental which my american friends say isnt acceptable over there.
What about South Asians? We generally have very thick hair (Pakistanis, Indians, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis etc), and thick long hair (usually plaited) is a big aspect of our culture, as you can see from our movies.
Some South Asian faiths e.g. Sikhism, states that strength is in ones hair hence why Sikh males wear turbans and grow their hair and beards, whereas Sikh females have very long hair as they religiously shouldn't cut it.
I look forward to your reply...!

PS: there is a visible/objective difference between Far Eastern Asians and South Asians hair. Far Eastern Asians, imo, look like they have thin and flat hair.
