Just over 2 months (Rogaine, Minoxidil)

...and no improvement whatsoever :(

I had my hair cut this afternoon - i really hate getting it cut because i see how s&*% it is looking and i have to sit looking at myself for an hour in the mirror whilst the hairdresser gets to work. It looks worse esp when it is wet!

So, my query for the ladies ahead of me on the Rogaine front - any joy? I know im just over 2 months and some see results much much much later, but i wish i just had a bit of "encouraging" regrowth to keep me going and keep me using this darned product!

Sometimes my hair "feels prickly" and i think that might be regrowth sticking out, but it's just an illusion, as when it is washed, nothing has changed except a worsening of the situation.

Just over 2 months

Hi Sadie,
This coming Friday will be 4 months on Rogaine for me. I do see regrowth. They are in the middle of my scalp and are about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch long. I'm happy about it however, the non-stop shedding is making me insane. I know there's no way these new hairs can keep up with the rapid pace of the shed. I don't see regrowth everywhere. I see it right in front in my "widow's peak" and right down the center of my scalp, where my part is. I also see regrowth on my left temple area, but not so much my right. I kept hoping that by now I would see stubble all over my scalp. I know that I really need to wait since 4 months is still considered early in the process and I guess it's better to see SOME new hairs rather than nothing! I'm not giving up, though. Rogaine is my ONLY hope!!! I'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief when I stop shedding over 100-150 hairs a day. I seriously can't believe I have even one hair left on my head with all of this shedding.
So, Sadie, keep hanging in there. I didn't see any regrowth at 2 months either. Are you shedding?

Sadie....hang in there babe!

At two months I was shedding so bad I though I was literally going to be bald in no time. It was awful, and I saw absolutely NOTHING. Now I am in month five and I do see some regrowth. I am still shedding too much, but I have hopes that it will taper off.

I have read TOO many stories about things looking up inthe 6-12 month period. we have to remember our follicle is an organ and has been damaged so we have to give it time to get better, ad it's gonna take longer than four or even six months.

so again, hang in there, I don't think any one has any postive results to post at the two month mark, butit can and probably will get better for you!:-)

Thanks Chris and V

I know i need to be patient, but there's that niggling know how in the back of my mind that Regaine doesnt work for anyone, and i feel that it wont work for me....!

Chris, it is really good to read about you seeing some regrowth :) I pray it continues and that the regrowth gets healthier. I've read somewhere that regrowth can be fine and wispy, and that it takes time to become healthier.

I am not seeing physical hair loss but i am feeling the hair "thinning", if you get what i mean. My sides, corners and crown are the worst affected :(

Do either of you feel prickly bits when you feel your scalp? Just wondering it its me.

to my friend Sadie...hang in there

Hope these cheer you up sweetie. i like to read them when I am feeling down.

Hi ladies.

First, I want to say how helpful this forum was to me when I was going through my lowest points this past spring. I was absolutely frantic about my hair. I was depressed and anxious, and crying daily, and felt no one understood...having you all here who know what I was going through was so helpful.

So - my update. The Rogaine works! My hairdresser this week was amazed at how much regrowth I have. Today I got ready, and not only did I feel better about the amount of hair I have, but I actually LIKE my hair, which is unheard of for me! It's actually BOUNCY like people with normal hair! Mind you, its a good 8 inches shorter - I had to chop it off when it really got bad, but I'm kind of liking the short cut.

I'll take some more pics soon for you all because I know how helpful that was to me...but wanted to tell everyone to stay positive and that there is hope.

Hi, I know that many people don't stay in the forum once their medication has worked, but I'm not one of them.. I'm so eager to let everyone know that I've been using Women's Rogaine 2x daily since Early Feb 2007 and it's now showing results: I shed no more than 10 hairs a day, compared to over 20 before rogaine and during rogaine shed. My scalp also starts to disappear under the new regrowth. My boyfriend has been noticing this for at least a month now. My shed period lasted between 2nd to 4th month use, it was 2 depressing months, and after that it only slowed a little bit, until 5th month when it really slowed down like I said is happening now ! I hope this encourages the ladies out there who are still contemplating rogaine. I hope my hair keeps it up and improves.

good luck to all

kiara

this was on HA:

unfortunately its not me but my mother started losing her hair rapidly when she hit menopause about 4 years ago. she has been using the rogaine 2% liquid twice a day for 3 years. she noticed regrowth after about 6 months of use and now, after three years her hair has never been this thick! and there is still regrowth everywhere... i'm assuming i got the AGA from my dads side, and rogaine hasn't helped me...but everyone is different. just thought i would share and hopefully give some of you ladies some hope

»I started rogaine 2% in 1998 with very minimal results. I started 5% in 2002 and after nine months had great regrowth and hair was very thick. So yes I would recommend rogaine 5% to anyone who has aga. I hear the foam is even better than 5% liquid so I'm making that transition at the moment.

Just wanted to share my progress with Rogaine. It has been about 6 weeks and apart from the increased hair loss in the first few weeks it hasn't been too bad. What I am most pleased about is all the regrowth around the temple area and front of my head. There used to be a distinct line between my bangs and the rest of my hair - that is now less obvious and there are lots of new hairs about 1/2 cm to 1cm long. I was diagnosed with AGA about 9 weeks ago and am so glad I started on Rogaine when I did. I think I had been in denial about my hair loss for about a year. I wish I had dealt with it earlier because my stress level and self-esteem would have been a lot better.
Best of luck to you all.

One year on 2%

Hi Ladies, Well, since I am now at a year, I thought I would give a quick update. (I wrote my whole story back in November, and that post has more details of my struggle and journey)
Anyway, it has been 1 year using 2% and my hair is doing great. Back in Nov. I was still shedding too much, but now it is completely normal. This is the first time in over 3 years that I don't have to clean my tile bathroom floor everyday, clean out the drain and my brush everyday. I NEVER thought it would happen and it feels so good. My hair is a lot longer than a year ago, and I love this too. An added bonus is that my eyelashes are super long too. I did have extra facial hair that I needed to wax, but that seems to have stopped, because I haven't waxed for months now. (I looked at my forearms last week and YIKES - my baby fine light hairs are now much longer and darker.) Good thing it is winter! Once short sleeved weather comes back I'll have to wax this, or? Any ideas?
I never thoought I would get to this point. ( I was diagnosed by 3 doctors as TE, and one quack in Chicago as TE,AGA, and diffuse AA.) I don't put too much stock in the dx anyway, because I think doctors don't know much. Bottom line, if you try treating with iron, protein, etc. and it does not improve in 6-9 months, it probably needs some help to start cycling normal again. Don't wait much longer than this!
I was distressed and depressed for years about this. We rarely get the message that it really can improve. If I had known this, I would have gladly sucked it up, and thought to myself, well, it's only temporary. Not knowing this, and imagining daily how it would keep getting progressively worse, I was almost suicidal. Just writing that is so shocking, because unless you have been there, you can't imagine anyone being that bad over their hair. Even now, when I am in "recovery?" and I read some women's posts whining and carrying on, I think - Snap out of it, it is only hair! Then I remember how terrible I felt.
Anyway - please remember if you try rogaine, to give it a FULL YEAR. Back at my 9 month mark, I really didn't see much of a difference. I also use head and shoulders for dry, sensitive scalp everyday. I think this helps keep my scalp healthy so the rogaine won't dry it out. You really need to keep your scalp healthy for healthy hair to grow from it.
Be well ladies - Bee

Hey v, Thanks so much for the encouraging posts. You are always looking at the bright side and your determination at beating this thing helps me to want to keep fighting myself!
Hi Sadie, I know how hard it is to be patient. It is not easy at all but I keep trying to remind my self that this nightmare is making me so much stronger (even though I still have those days of bawling my eyes out!).
As far as my regrowth, they are thick hairs! They look thicker than my old, long hairs. I really never see those wispy hairs that people talk about so I'm not sure what's going on. But, it's terrible when I do see one of those short, thick hairs on the shower floor. I wanted to mention that I'm one of those people whose outer 1/3 of their eyebrows was missing. I never did figure out what that meant, but my eyebrow are growing back. Must be the Rogaine.

Ditto that V - thanks. For me this is a vicious cycle of feeling down, then positive after reading others successes, then down again.

Can I ask what is your regimen - just Regaine? Is it the 5% foam?

Yeah, All that I'm doing is the 5% Rogaine. I am taking prenatal vitamins, iron, and Biotin and just trying to eat healthy. I try to buy all organic veggies and fruits. My kids drink organic milk and I just bought at the store yesterday, hamburger meat without hormones or antibiotics. Tyson now has chicken without hormones. I used to eat salmon from a foil pouch everyday in my salad but now am afraid of possible mercury poisoning so I'm not eating that anymore. I have no idea if any of my new eating habits are helping my hair but at least the rest of my body is benefiting from it.

Statistics statistics! Can anyone tell me what the 5% Regaine success rate is? I've been browsing for the past half hour and all i read is "in a minority regrowth" but the rest is all to do with "prevention" and "stability". The only stat i got was 30% success rate, which, imo, is cack cos i know i'll fall into the 70% bracket....!

The admin on her alopecia , who is also the admin of a male hair forum, has stated many times that the foam has an 85% success rate. I have heard this other places as well.

However....the big question is what is "success" defined by? One persons idea of success may not be the same as another.

That's true - and that is what my hair extension consultant chap said. He said that success can be anything from a few strands of regrowth to all over regrowth, and of course anything in between!!!

I guess im after moderate to full regrowth, but i doubt there are stats on such measures.

I keep thinking the same. This time last year i had twice as much as i had now...and this time 2.5 years ago, i had a darn thick head of hair which my female friends were in envy of.

To appreicate good skin and hair is a must when you have it :(

This is so hard to deal with.

Hi Ladies! Boy, I really enjoyed reading this trail of notes. I joined this forum about a month ago because, like most of you, I was clogging the drain at every washing, every brushing, every hair drying, every combing. I had hair down to the middle of my back with bangs to my eyes. When I styled it, I really loved it. Then at the end of July the shed started. I really didn't think much of it until I really started to freak around the middle/end of August. I got the blood tests, I called my doctor and finally got in to see a Dermotologist who diagnosed me with TE. Funny, he did like many other doctors did to the women on this forum, "It's TE and don't worry, you'll be just fine". Well after spending days crying, being depressed, blood working coming back fine, going off the pill, I started using Rogaine religously, taking biotin and daily vitamins as well as Lexapro and I am a much better person. And, I've been on Rogaine for about a month now and I see regrowth. Quite a bit of it on top, on the front hair line but nothing on the right side where it is very thin. I still shed but I don't freak about it, I can't. I just pick it up, put it in the trash and move on. I got my hair cut (and colored) above my shoulders and it made a huge difference. I got it colored because I told myself it's going to fall out anyways, just get it done. So, I did. I KNOW that my TE is all stress related because there is no one in my family with hair problems. All I can say is to hang in there. I know I am not as bad as some of you and my heart goes out to you because I do understand and know that there is no one else around except people in this forum that understand. I have found everyone here to be very helpful, supportive and understanding. I wish everyone the best of luck and I am happy to be able to share my experience and get all the wonderful & positive feedback. Hang in there everyone.
