Ferritin Information (Anemia & Hair Loss) |
I finally found somebody who makes a formal recommendation about ferritin levels who takes the toxicity issue seriously, but who also is concerned about the dangers of low iron. It is a book I have by Dr. Russell Blaylock, Health and Nutrition Secrets that can Your Life.
He says you should avoid letting iron levels reach values above the midpoint of the reference range. ANd he says you should stop supplementation when sufficient levels have been reached and then check levels to make sure they are stable. I guess I got the Vitmain C thing from him, he says not to take Vitmain C during meals because it raises iron levels so much. I have been doing that but maybe I will stop that now that they are higher.
Anyway, thought you would be interested. I think it is strange nobody else touches this subject

Ferritin Information |
Iron overload is a serious problem. But it is not very common.
Moreover there are protective mechanisms in the intestine which prevents absorption of iron if the blood levels are more than required.

Hair Site Iron overload isn't a serious problem for most people bc they aren't popping iron pills at the rates that some of these women are doing trying to get their ferritin levels to very high rates. Julie if your hair was falling out when your ferritin was at 70 it's not likely your hair is falling out due to ferritin at all. 36 is a respectable ferritin level for normal life.
