Hi Megan,

I wish I had better news to report however at this point I am still trying to adjust my estradiol level above 100 and keep it there thru my period. Things were looking better until my last period and then my hair shed became higher again. I just had my level tested last Thursday on 22nd day of my cycle so I'm hoping that should be a good idea of what the total is. Then I will test it again during my period to see how low it drops. As you know this has been the search for the pot of gold. I am growing hair in the crown but it cant keep up with the loss. My hair looks bad to me. Im pretty disgusted and upset about it this past week. I feel like giving up and letting it go but I know I cant yet. I just started using .1mg vivelle dot last Sunday. If I find that my estrogen is above 100 and stays there but my hair does not stop falling out I will have to take the finasteride without any other choice. Wish I had better news but I have not yet found the answer to my problem.
Are you considering taking HRT?

:O))) yes both total and free. However I suppose if the estrogen level is good then I wont know if its the DHT unless I take the finasteride. The only sure thing I know is I'm so sick of it like everyone here. Just stated my cycle today so who knows what will happen the next week or so.

You'll know if your testosterone is higher or lower than your previous test so that will answer a lot of questions.

guess I thought it would stay the same. Didnt realize it may show to be higher too which would help me make the decision about the fin.

How did you choose birth control pills over the vivelle dot???
How often do you have your bloodwork done??

I will be 50 in December. I never wanted birth control because I knew I would have to change in the near future. Was afraid of losing more hair if I had to stop the BCP. Since my periods became irregular after never having been that way my whole life I knew it was either estrogen loss or a combination of that with the testosterone rising due to low estrogen. All this just started last fall and my hair has been hit very hard by it. Ive had my blood tested about 7 times since June. Somehow my insurance keeps paying for it. However that will end December 31st.

Did you find it helped but when you had a period the shed was worse? Are you taking vivelle alone or with progesterone? Should you expect a period each month on your HRT? I was really worried about getting a period and having the shed get worse.

I hate getting the bloodwork done...so many vials taken at once. I'm trying to limit the stuff I test to cut back on the number of vials but it's hard..I don't want to go in every couple months.

I was still having a period but it is now coming 25-26 days apart instead of 28. That has caused me major problems. The vivelle has helped me move my period from only 20 days apart to the 25 so I guess I am making some headway. But yes, my hair shed is worse when I get a period now. I take prometrium also on days 1-12 of each month. I have been one of the lucky ones that has never had any problems during my period. However I am paying the price now as I cant seem to get the shedding to stop. I know 5 mos. doesnt seem like a long time but my hair has thinned tremendously just in this amount of time. Getting tested has not bothered me but I am mainly just getting the estradiol tested now. Only added the testosterone again because I wanted to see if it had changed at all since early August. As you already know, this is so frustrating and some days seems like hell on earth. Some days are good but many more are not. This hasnt been a good week either.
