Does anyone else suspect.... (Propecia, Finasteride for Women) |
that finasteride is as effective in women as it is in men but these results are not made very public due to the damage to fetuses. ie. its kept quiet so women don't put fetuses at risk, kind of like a patronising withholding of knowledge?

No, I don't suspect that. It is written everywhere finasteride is not to be taken while trying to concive & pregnant. It's just the same thing as Androcur and spironolactone. Or flutamide. Than none of these woudl be very public because they ALL cause major damage in fetuses. Any still spironolactone for example is prescribed to most of the pcos women and it's very promoted as an antiandrogen. The pharma industry doesn't think like that : protect the fetuses bla bla, if they would have results they would promote EVERYING to make money. Money makes the world go round.

Same is true of Accutane and it's used very widely by women. You have to take a pregnancy test before you can have it prescribed. I don't think enough research has been done on Finasteride for women yet. Women can use Finasteride with bcps or HRT which can alter the outcome. My feeling is that many different types of studies need to be done to get the true picture on Finasteride.

One problem is that that the company didn't pay for it to be studied on women because of the damage to fetuses etc. That's what there is so little info...

Might come down to civil litigation claims and suing/money issues...? That's my two pence as a lawyer!
Roaccutane isnt widely prescribed here in the UK, but i've read of 14 suicides because of patients taking this medication (apparently suicidal/depressive side effects), and then came the litigation claims.

Anything that acts against androgens can affect the growing fetus especially the genitalia of male fetus. Finasteride is one such medication and it can affect the genitalia of male fetus.

Suicides and suicidal attempts are psychiatric side effects of accutane -
