Dr. Oz (Rogaine, Minoxidil)

He was on Oprah yesterday speaking to men about their health concerns. One thing he touched on was baldness and he said that it can be halted with propecia and Rogaine but that Rogaine does not grow hair. I thought it was supposed to help grow some hair back??? True or not true? What are your experiences?

Rogaine grew hair for me the first year or two on it...

Been using it since August 2007 - not an ounce of difference. Got 2 more bottles to cane then Regaine can go F itself.

I never really knew if Rogaine was growing hair or if it was always growing without the help of Rogaine. During my extreme sheds all that I could notice was hair falling out. Then I'd start on Rogaine and when the shedding would slow down, that's when I could actually stop obssessing over the shed and notice the hair growing. I think, for me, Rogaine slows down my shedding and I am able to focus on the growth. I really don't know if it does grow hair. Even my derm told me to start using Rogaine to "keep the hair I have". So he may not even think that Rogaine grows hair but rather slows down the shedding.

Well the whole hair loss thing is peeing me off. My ordered hair system came in this week and i tried it on before further adjustments. It looked WOW and i looked WOW! but i cant help think how fake it all is. Just wanted my own hair back...and four years on, it aint looking likely.

Sadie - so glad to hear the hair looked nice. Did you end up getting a topper?

Hey Annie. I dont know what they call it here in England, but a hair system is what i was told it is? But when some of the ladies describe a topper, i think it must be the same thing. Basically it's to put someone elses hair on the top of my head, to make it as though it's my own...which it aint, and which it never will be! How am i ever going to meet someone when i'm a fake!

It's not what's on your head that makes you real Sadie. You'll look beautiful and you're just as real as anyone who would alter their appearance either by plastic surgery, make up, or hair color. You are what you are... hold your head high, shoulders back and I'm sure you'll look great. Most guys think that women do things to their hair all the time. It's time for women to get over the whole fake thing and say hey I'm just changing my hair do. If they bother to ask just describe it as an extension for fullness.

Thanks Deliah - that has made me feel somewhat better :)

It's not as though i'm covering up a bald patch (yet!), so an extension for fullness, as you put it, sounds just like a cosmetic enhancement. x

It is just touching my shoulders. I think i need a trim though! Still on Regaine (7 months into it). I also use oil on my hour (always have done really, being south asian). Taking Zinc supplements. My iron is sky high, B12 above the maximum!

Since coming off dianette mid-December my hair has worsened :(
