Are highlights safe? (Hair Color)

I have dark brown hair and used to do blonde highlights every so often, but haven't in a while because I'm afraid to make the hair loss worse, but I'm thinking it may help conceal my scalp a bit? Does anyone know if this is safe? Not that I can afford it right now, but I'm curious for the future.

Thanks,
Kim

Are highlights safe?

Use the foil process for highlight and a low volume developer.

Thank you for your response. What the heck is a "low volume developer" and is my hairdresser going to think I'm crazy when I mention it to her? LOL

It's very common and most good salons use low volume developer. I have my hair highlighted all the time and I think my hair always looks fuller after highlights. As far as increasing HL I don't think it makes any difference in the amount of shed.

Mom,

Developer is the liquid ingredient that opens up the cuticle of the hair. A very low volume developer may be 10 volume (and may contain no ammonia), but it's mainly used on temporary color. A 20 volume is still considered low, but
enough to lift color or deposit permanent color and still be gentle in the scalp.

I know this because my mom is a hairstylist. ;-)
