How is everyone doing? (Hair & Scalp Odor Problem) |
Hey guys, how is everyone?
This forum has been a bit quiet lately! Is everyone cured!?
I think my odor is starting to become resistant to the tea tree oil shampoo as I don't get as many odor free days as I used to from a wash. But then again I've been eating a LOT of starchy and sugary foods lately which yeasts love.
O yes I'm also planning on building us a website (after I finish my final year exams) so that we can have our own space, and so people can find us more easily. It will have a review section so that we can rate products that have benefited us, and of course a forum, and anything else we might want to add, so suggestions are very welcome.

Nax,
What a great idea! I would love for you to build a web site.
Sorry you are having a bit of trouble. The Jason Dandruff always brings me back home. I've been surprisingly great lately and I'm still leaning towards the thyroid/endocrine link to this bacterial/fungal problem. I am taking a lower dose of Synthroid so I'm thinking it is easing up on my oil production, etc. But I totally don't understand any of this. One thing I have been doing is taking Turmeric supplements (the spice used in cooking) as it helps with staph and I have no idea if this would help the scalp odor as my scalp odor was under control when I started taking it. But it can't hurt to try and if you don't want to take the supplements, you could just sprinkle the spice over your foods. Wonder if this sounds wacko to anyone? Hope not! Anyway, I'm all for the natural treatments where possible because they seem at this point to be more effective. I had a little staph problem and the turmeric helped where the antibiotics (clindomycin) failed. So I have become a regular user of turmeric. http://www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/20-health-benefits-of-turmeric.html
Anyway, I use Jason Dandruff once a week (out of fear) and Jason Jojoba in between, I go for 2-3 days in between washings. This seems to do the trick for me at the moment.
I do recommend trying turmeric to all. There are lots of links concerning
the health benefits of using it and it is recommended to control skin infections. I am normally very skeptical of trying supplements, believe me. But I do know this was very effective for me and my skin problem. I'm anxious for another person to give this a try and see if it brings favorible results.

Hey Betsy,
Looks like its just me and you here!
Thanx for posting the turmeric info, sounds like its really beneficial in a lot of areas. The only thing is whether its affective against yeast, I'm not too sure because there was no mention of it being an antifungal, only an antibacterial from what I gathered. Nevertheless I would definitely give it a shot even if just for its general health benefits.
I've also been looking at names for our website, I think I'll go for ScalpOdor.org but if you have any other options I would love to hear them. ScalpOdorCommunity.com maybe?
Speak to you soon,

Nax,
I vote for ScalpOdorCommunity.com, but they both are great! I'm so looking forward to it. Hey, the more sites for this condition the better in my book.
I see what you mean about the yeast thing and turmeric. I just like the turmeric as I cannot take antibiotics orally and the scalp issue reminds me a little bit of MRSA. It gets a little scary to me that I can't take antibiotics. At least turmeric takes care of the bacterial end of things!

My odor has pretty much disappeared. I am guessing that it was a slow breakdown of the synthetic hormones of NuvaRing and anxiety regarding the smell. I was freaking out that there was a smell, but a friend told me there is no smell. My only guess is that the real smell went away back in September/October, and slowly decreased while I was super-sensitive to smells. Now I smell nothing. I hope that it stays that way, but I do notice that I react to fragrances in the air more than I used to because of my fear. It sort of reminds me of when I was in a major car accident. For months afterward, I was easily startled, jumping or screaming because someone or something startled me. I drove extremely slowly and defensively for a while. Now I'm fine, and I'm back to driving aggressively, but it took a long time to get back to normal.

Absolutely! I'm going to go to an endocrinologist soon to make sure that everything is OK. My sister has thyroid problems, so it makes me wonder if my estrogen levels are OK.
For a while I was thinking absolutely no fragrances in any products, but I have tried scented products again, and there is no problem. I keep thinking that it's pheromone related, that my body seemed to break down the synthetic hormone into a by-product that smells really bad. Oh, well, I'm not a biochemist, so we'll never really know.
