Progesterone Cream??? (Androgenetic Alopcia (AGA) Female Pattern) |
Ladies,
Do any of you, who are not in peri/post menopause, use Progesterone cream for AGA?
I've read some reviews of it and it seems to help women with hair loss but it is also directed at women undergoing menopause, so i just wondered if there was anyone out there using it in their non-menopausal years (20's/30's/40's notably!).

Sadie I would be careful which kind you choose bc there are forms that are androgenic. If you're not in peri I have no idea how you would use it..

Progesterone Cream??? |
Hi SadieNot sure if I'm in perimnenopause yet (although I am 44) as I've had stages in my life when I've had periods every two weeks (during 20s, 30s and again just last year)but I am sure this has not helped my hair loss problem. However, I have just started using a Progesterone cream called Serenity (available from a company in Guernsey)as the more I read, the more I think natural progesterone can be of benefit. Just read "Passage to Power" by Lesley Kenton and also a book which I've just lent to a friend. I seem to remember the title of this book is something like "What your Doctor does not tell you about Premenopause" by Dr John Lee. Scary reading. What I've decided is this: if my hair loss might have been kick-started by period and therefore low ferritin problems, then progesterone cream just might be able to help, not only with PMT (I am horrible!!!!!) but perhaps also with hair. From what I can conclude (personal opinion)natural progesterone is not harmful, and that it is the inbalance of oestrogen and progesterone which happens in peri which can cause so many annoying symptoms which so many women just learn to put up with. Perhaps you should read these books and see what you think? Have a good weekend.

Progesterone Cream??? |
Progesterone cream was my first intervention when i started shedding.
I obtained it from a MD and a reputable pharmacy.
It did not help my hair after 16 months.
It did increase my pms. It made me get MANY spider veins.
Progesterone can do that(I did not find that out until long after I started)
Just my experience. Maybe it can help you!

Like Marjie, progesterone cream was my first intervention too. My gyno said it was ok to try, wouldn't hurt me...but not to expect miracles. It did nothing for my hair loss either...but I did get the spider veins and never made the connection!
If you go through stages where you have a period every 2 weeks, you should really check to see if you have uterine fibroids or ovarian cysts. Very often...that can be the reason.

It did nothing for me either but gave me a lot of unpleasant problems. I'm on prometrium now ( I have to be bc of estrogen). I only took it in late peri (I wasn't having any HL problems) but I didn't feel it did anything to resolve the problems I was having at that point. I read Dr. Lee's book and if you believed what he wrote you would think that Progesterone cream would solve every problem that you could possibly have. I feel like it was a Nick Pericone book lot's of hype not a lot of substance.

All interesting comments girls. Yes, I agree, Progesterone cream does sound like a miracle, and perhaps too good to be true, but I think I will continue with it for a while. Perhaps I should go to the doctor (AGAIN)about periods - and thanks for this suggestion - although the last one I saw just gave me a 12 month prescription for HRT when I went to him about bi-monthly periods. Sometimes I wonder whether I should just have a hysterectomy (suggestion from another doctor) and have done withh it, but that would probably open a whole new can of worms, and I dont feel strong enough for that challenge. Hadnt heard that Progesterone cream can cause spider veins either.....

Progesterone Cream??? |
Progesterone made my PMS worse, and caused my scalp to flake bad which equals more hair loss. I think it was raising my t levels.
