Question Regarding Treatment (PCOS & Hair Loss)

Hi-

I was diagnosed with PCOS around 5 years ago after experiencing a major shed preceded by a couple of years of acne, extra hair on face/body, and spotting between periods. I had been on birth control pills from 18-26, and once I went off, the acne started and then gradually the other symptoms. Once my hair started shedding, I went on Yasmin, which stopped the shedding, but my hair was never the same. I had a normal to low daily shed, but the regrowth/density near my hairline wasn't the same, so I started minoxidil (5%) a couple of years ago. I was really happy with the results for a while, and didn't think about my hairloss too much for almost a year and a half (bliss). The hair density near my hairline wasn't as thick as I wanted it to be, but it was better than before and I didn't obsess over it. Well, last September I started to notice more shed. I didn't think too much of it until November/December when my hair was thinner to me (even around the part which was never an issue). I started using Nioxin Shampoo which seemed to help, but I'm still noticing more hair loss.

Question: There doesn't seem to be any trigger that is causing me to shed more. Is it possible that my testosterone is getting higher or that maybe there's something else going on related to the PCOS that is making me shed? When they first tested my testosterone around 5 years ago, it was pretty low, but then again, I was on Yasmin by that time. I'm thinking that I'm just super sensitive. Also, I was on 100 mg of Spiro for a year (wasn't on Rogaine yet), but I never noticed a difference. Maybe it's only because it was supposed to stop further loss? Will spiro stop the miniaturization process of the hairs? Maybe I should go back on at a higher dose?

The thing that sucks the most is that when I went off the BCP's, I lost around 5 or more pounds, I could eat more food and not gain weight, and my hair started to get thicker and wavy (kinky in places but I wasn't complaining). Once I had to go back on the BCP's because of PCOS, my hair straightened back to the way it was before and the texture was fine. I can't imagine why my hair would start thickening up and then just start shedding. Maybe the testosterone in my body kept on building and building?

So, what do you guys recommend? Higher does of Spiro than before or Propecia? Maybe try Metformin in case I'm insulin resistant (I don't have a high blood sugar but maybe I'm super sensitive)? What will stop the minituarization process and why am I shedding again (not horrible shed but a higher than normal shed that has persisted since last year).

Sorry for the rambling post.

I would definitely try a higher dose of Spiro, from what I've read it seems pretty common that it needs to be upped over time. I don't have PCOS but there were some great posts by Jen who did have PCOS and I remember she needed to up the Spiro to get results over time.

Question Regarding Treatment

200 mg of spiro is the optimum dose.
Metformin should also be taken as it takes care of most of the symptoms of PCOS
