Hi delilah,
I'm taking Yasmin continuously but since I started off with Yaz, should I count those 3 weeks on Yas as part of my "12 weeks on one week off" method Dr. Redmond recommends?

I was just about to ask you how things were going with the yasmin? Has your shed lightened up yet? I'm going to start the ovcon at the end of this month. I know I keep saying that, but right now my shedding is getting worse, so I think I need to do something about it!!! Let me know how things are. I hope I hear good news!!!!

Delilah, good to hear from you!
Well, I haven't noticed a huge improvement in the shedding yet. It may be a little less than before but not enough. I'm still at around 150 after showering. My widow's peak and scalp are starting to show through and I have days where I just say "whatever" and other days when I'm so depressed I wonder how I'm going to keep on. I'm just hoping that after the 3 month mark that I will see a big change!!!!!!
You've probably talked about this before but what is ovcon? What do you think is causing your shed to increase?
BTW, I'm still not sure if I should include the 3 weeks that I was on Yaz as part of my 12 week on regimen? What do you think?

This is Taz not Delilah.....Ovcon 35 is another bcp. I've heared good thing about it, even though Rae has tried it and it made her moody. I'm willing to give it a try!!! My bangs are already see through!! I hope your shed goes down. Currently I'm at 100 washing and drying, and who knows how much more through the day, and 50 or more on non-wash days. I know nothing (ziltch) about bcp, I know it's good for andro-genetic but not as good as yasmin. I'm too scared to try the yasmin.I just know that when I was pregnant for 2 whole months, my shed lessened quite abit. So I figure maybe a bcp is the answer for me.

here is what I learned, yazmin is low for estrogen. So if you have an already low estrogen problem than yasmin would only hurt you. Ovcon35 has a high estrogen ratio. Do you already know what your levels are?

Oh my gosh, taz!!! I'm so sorry! I didn't even look at who responded and just assumed it was delilah. However, I am VERY happy to hear from you, too!
I'm really hoping that the bcp helps my hair. My gyn said it's sort of pointless to try to measure estrogen because in peri it can fluctuate so much. So, I'm just jumping in with the pill hoping it works. Each time I was pregnant my hair got crazy thick so I'm hoping it will happen again on the pill.
You mentioned that Yasmin is low in estrogen but it has 30 micrograms. It's not the highest but I worry about going higher at my age. Besides, I read Dr. Redmond's book and he highly recommends Yasmin for hl.
Did you ever get a referral for an endo? If you do, and get an appointment, I'd love to hear how that goes.

I was on Yaz for 24 days and then I immediately started Yasmin and have been on that for 46 days (almost 7 weeks). So, total weeks on bcp is about 10 weeks. I guess I'll include the weeks on Yaz to get my 12 week total.

Are you afraid to start bcp? I've been on bcp before and never had any problems on them so I was very ready to get started. What is your current regimen and why do you think your shedding has increased?

I am afraid to start. I have never been on the pill,so many side effects and messing with ones natual hormones is scary to me. Plus I love when I ovulate, I get strong sexual urges! LOL (I know, TMI) I am currently not doing anything at the moment. My theory on the increase in shed is, 1 year ago this month I was pregnant and I think my hormones are going back to what they were pre-pregnancy. Sounds silly, but thats my story and sticking to it. LOL I have an appointment with an endo on the 26 in west bloomfield. It's a woman, so I hope she can better understand where I am coming from with hormones being key to my hair loss. I'll let you know. Something needs to calm my shedding. I brushed out 50+ hairs this morning and then when I took my pony tail down, another 20 hairs were hanging 15 minutes later. And they are all thick hairs. God help me.................

Well, I think there is actually a decrease in shedding. (I am knocking on wood big time right now!!!) For a while there my shed was over 200 after washing. It started to dwindle to about 150 and today it was around 130. I sure hope this isn't some sort of fluke. I know it's still high but this is amazing. It could be that there is simply no hair left to shed (I'm almost literal here).
I am keeping may fingers crossed and praying that I'm on the road to recovery!
