23 years old and so so worried..... (Cyproterone Acetate (Diane35))

I'm only 23 years old and six months ago I withdrew myself from Dianette. Approximately 6 weeks ago I started to lose my hair (a side-effect of withdrawing from the pill) - every day I have at least 10-15 hairs on my pillow in the morning. Everytime I wash my hair I produce a clump of hair and everytime I comb it, my hair fills the comb. My hair is looking thinner and thinner by the day. I'm even too scared to hug my boyfriend anymore cos I just leave hairs behind on his clothes!

I'm seeing the doctor in two days time however I refuse to go back onto the pill, it's ruined my hormones!

So my question is - what happens next???? Will I literally lose all of my hair? I'm so so scared I'm going to end up bald! Do women end up with no hair when they suffer from androgenetic alopecia??

Tullip, losing hair after stopping a BCP is akin to given birth. Your estrogen levels in the body suddenly drop, and testosterone levels rise to what they were pre-BCP. These are your normal levels. However this sudden change in levels leads to a shed because the hair follicles reset their growth period. A bit like a clock and testosterone is what regulates the clock. Your hair will resume its normal pre-BCP shed frequency in about 2 to 3 months. You must be patient. However, some women have found that once on BCPs, their hair does not seem to stop shedding after the 3 month period. Apparently in some women, BCPs have the ability to trigger certain conditions where women experience hair thinning thereafter. I must say this is not the majority of women, but it can happen. Hair thinning very rarely leads to baldness in women. Just wait and see and enjoy life. Stressing over your hair will extend the shed period!

Hello everyone,

Actually am new to this board that i discovered accidentally while ckecking the lucinda ellery site.
I wonder if anyone can help me with their experience,am suffering from alopecia androgenetica,am from Cairo, the latest thing that we have is the rogaine,i tried it but it was so boring & expensive as you don't see the results except after 6 months.
from the messages here i noticed you were mentioning dianette pills and other things, can anyone help me understand more about these solutions, and are they efficient or not , and where can i find them,i actually was so excited when i saw lucinda's work that i contacted her but then knew that if i went with the volumizer that i'll have to come to the UK every 6 weeks & that would be very hard on me.
If anyone could help me understand more about the dianette pills & other stuff you were mentioning here on the board, i'll be more than happy.
As you know women suffering from hair loss need any help or information would mean the world to them
thanks again
best regards;-)

Don't feel bad about going on and off the pill, I did it too. Let's see how many times? I began on orthocyclen, constant yeast problems, so switched to loestrin, BIG mistake, the shed started and has never really stopped. Went off that, and on yasmin, which for a month or 2 seemed to have lots of regrowth, then the shed came back. Went off yasmin entirely, waited a good year and took no BCP at all, but the shed never stopped and no new growth. I got talked into getting back on the pill, desogen this time. My body did tolerate that better than the others, but still no regrowth or slowdown in shed. B/C pills are not the magic fix to hair loss, unfortunately. I wish they were, that would make it so easy. I think they were the cause of it, all my hair and health problems started when I began the loestrin. It's a highly androgenic pill (Ha! There was a time I didn't know the meaning of the word) I think loestrin triggered AGA and its been 5 yrs now, and I still haven't found a way to fix this mess. On the bright side, I don't know why I am not completely bald by now, after 5 yrs of shedding like I have. I probably have only 1/2 the hair I used to, thank goodness I started with very thick hair. But I am also terrified of being really bald in 10 yrs. I am only 25, since I started losing it at 20, I have a big head start on most women, who start to shed during menopause. Its so scary.
