Weight Gain on Propecia? (Propecia, Finasteride for Women)

HI-

I just started Propecia yesterday and was wondering if people gain weight on the drug. I read a few postings from men who said it made them gain, but have any women on this forum gained weight from it? Just kind of worried about that.... Also, has anyone on this forum experience hair regrowth from Propecia?

ť ť I see some sprouts but the crown has gotten thinner somewhat. I am currently on .5 mg daily because of fear of long term side effects. I have been taken it for 4 months. I don't plan to take it for a long time because it can potentially cause harm to a women's body since it can alter one's estrogen level. Too much estrogen can lead to breast and uterine cancer. I plan to stop after a year and hope that the rogain will be able to retain what propecia has helped to grow. I am not to sure if I want to search for a different derm who is willing to prescribe propecia to a woman because I still have around 5 refills of propecia left. Besides, I don't have really bad thinning now and any derm who sees me now would be reluctant to prescribe propecia to me both because of the degree of my hair loss and my sex.

ť How long were you on it before you noticed your face was rounder? I've been
ť on it for 5 months now, but haven't noticed my face changing. Did it help
ť you grow back your hair? I'm pre-menopausal, but maybe my dermatologist was
ť okay with prescribing it because I'm on birth control. I'd ask for a
ť referral to another physician if your current one won't prescribe it. When
ť I was referred to my dermatologist, I was very firm that I wanted to be
ť prescribed this...can you find a place that prescribes it online? Also,
ť what was your dose? I'm on 1mg, and I know it's advisable to be on 2.5 mg,
ť but my derm wanted to start with the lower dose and see how it goes. I see

Yes, it can happen to some people. Propecia can cause a proportionately higher ratio of ESTROGEN in the body. Some people complained about weight gain or water retention. Some men even reported having breast tissue while using Propecia as well because of that.

ť That's horrible that your doctor discontinued your prescription for it. How long were you on it before you noticed your face was rounder? I've been on it for 5 months now, but haven't noticed my face changing. Did it help you grow back your hair? I'm pre-menopausal, but maybe my dermatologist was okay with prescribing it because I'm on birth control. I'd ask for a referral to another physician if your current one won't prescribe it. When I was referred to my dermatologist, I was very firm that I wanted to be prescribed this...can you find a place that prescribes it online? Also, what was your dose?
