To Catou.....or anyone else Q re: estradiol (Cyproterone Acetate (Diane35))

Hi Catou or anyone that has knowledge in this area
From last entries i reported that i was on cypertrone acetate, im on the second month so far. Seems to have brought the shedding down slightly but just need to wait. I didnt want to go onto diane with CPA because the estrogen isnt bioidentical. I have a query about biodentical estradiol. Is anyone supplementing with this. My understanding of it is that it wouldnt be like the pill when its stops your ovaries producing estrogen and just provides it artificially, its adding onto what you already have. What are peoples experiences with this and what type have you been supplementing with. Ive read quite a lot in other forums that women have come back with all normal results and have chosen to supplement with estradiol with good results to hair growth. i know you can get patches and gel, or tablet form (which im sure my gp wouldnt give me because of my age - 35).

Also was wondering if anyone knew how the T and E balance worked, as this may help me better understand about what im tampering with.

Many thanks in advance to any replies i receive, much appreciated

Hi Salis,

I have had low hormones and was treated 2 years ago with BHRT. I use 1mg estriol (E3) vaginally every 3-4 days and oral micronized progesterone 200mg (12-14 days at end of my cycle). It has made a huge difference in how I feel, but b/c I have androgenic alopecia, it adding E and P will cause T to raise naturally and I have noticied a huge decrease in my hair volume. Balancing your hormones allows you to have hair growth but if you have andr. alopecia it's a tricky thing to manage. I would not say I am happy with the results I have with my hair. I get the BHRT from here: http://www.womenshealth.com/. Let me know if you haev more questions.

Dear Ann
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sorry to hear things havent worked out as would have been expected. can i just ask why you use the estroil every 3-4 days and the progesterone for 12-14 days at the end of your cycle? Did you have any regrowth initially Ann? Did you notice your shedding going up and how did you know your T rose whilst taking E and P. I hope things work out for you. Did you get the advice of a doctor in adminstering the above or are you adjusting and experimenting as you go along?
many thanks
salis

Hi Salis,

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was suffering from a worm and virus on my computer! I see an MD that does alternative medicine. She has done BHRT for several years. I would never try to do it myself. I have vaginal dryness, so it is more effective for me to use the E3 cream. Every 3-4 days gives me the right dose I need for my body. The supplemental P mimics the natural P in your body, that is why you take it for 12-14 days at the end of your cycle.

Prior to BHRT treatment, I had some thinning in my hair but not really bad AGA/FPB. I had horrible fatigue, insomnia, and PMS. I had my hormones tested and they all were way below normal. My dr was concerned I would go into premature ovarian failure if we left it that way (and I was only 35), so one we added P and E3 and brought my hormones to normal levels, then the T rose on it’s own to a low normal level, and then I really started to miniaturize. It has been going on for 2 years. If you plan on trying to supplement like this, I would start an oral anti-androgen first, so it can block the T when it rises. I had no shedding when starting the medication. In fact the shedding and hair growth improved because my hormones were balanced. My nails grew really well too. I once stopped the E3 for about 3 weeks and went into a shed. Too high or too low hormones can cause your hair to shed. I have thought about going back to the way I was pre-BHRT, when my hair was not really thinning, but that means I would go through a shed going off the E3 and P and then I would feel really fatigued again. In all, it is better for my body to have the right hormone levels. I just wish my hair would not so fussy!

Be careful about which E is used too. Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2), Estriol (E3). E3 has the least harmful effects on the body and is not as likely to shuttle in the T pathway.

Hope this has answered your questions. Please feel free to ask my any you have!
