Yaz has decreased my shed (Yasmin)

Hi,

I went on Yaz, (and yes YAZ, not Yasmin) about two months ago, and while the other shoe could drop at some point, I can definitively tell you my shed has decreased. When shampoosing in the shower, I would have hairs all over my hands, probably at least 20, and then of course, in the comb, all over my shoulders, all day long. And of course, about every two weeks, I could feel a tingly, and intense itching in my scalp, and a large shed would take place over the course of the day.

Well, since starting Yaz, my scalp has been almost itch free, and I no longer have those days where strands of hair are falling out all day long. In the shower I can wash my hair, comb through conditioner, and maybe only see five or six hairs come out. I can then comb the wet hair, and many times no hairs are in the comb. And all day I'm not picking long hairs off my shoulders.

Once again, it's only been two months, but the tight, tingly, itchy scalp is gone, and I know that the amount of hairs falling out have decreased by at least half. At least.

I will keep you posted to see if there is any hair regrowth. I am 25, and I would say I've experienced gradual hair loss for five years, and in the past six months it increased greatly!!! I lost a lot, a lot, a lot of hair on the top of my head. However, the past two months have felt "normal", and fingers crossed, perhaps some hair will stick in my head while allowing new hairs to grow in.

Take care,
Lee

Yaz has decreased my shed

Hi Nicole,

I had never been on a bcp before, and figured that something that would increase my estrogen levels, and had a hormone that was identical to spironolactone (which they use to decrease dht) couldn't hurt.

Of course I still have hairs fall out, but that's always going to happen. However, I don't have crazy days where I feel like I could simply shake my head and 40 hairs would fall out. It's been much more consistent, and a lot of the tight, tingly, itchy scalp is gone. Keep me posted on how ur Yasmin is going. Do you have any side effects so far?

Yaz has decreased my shed

Hey Lee, do you know if Yaz has more estrogen than what your body normally produces? I was under the impression 20mcg would be too small a dose but if it's more than what your body has in a natural cycle I'd rather start with that instead of the 30mcg pills with possibly more side effects.

Do you have PCOS and were you ovulating and menstruating on your own naturally? Did you just have hair loss or did you also have acne or oily skin and scalp? Thanks for posting.

Yaz has decreased my shed

Dear Lee, have you been diagnost with female pattern baldness? what made your doctor choose yaz instead of yasmine? I just started yaz this month. i was on the pill demulin, i was fine on it but i did not think it was working for my hair loss so i got of it then i got the huge shed i lost about two to threehudred hairs every time i took a shower my hair is alot worse from where i started, so idecided to try yaz. i know its lower in estrogen than demulin buti guess ill wait and see what happens. thanks Laura

Yaz has decreased my shed

Hi Laura,

My doctors were essentially useless. I went to an endocrinologist, and my primary care physician, and she was like, "Yeah, this is something genetic, and there's not much we can do". Unbelievable, but in a way, I understood her, because how many "solutions" do you hear out there? Anyway, I went to my gyno and asked to be put on yasmin after reading so many positive things about it. I was put on Yaz, I'm not sure why that over Yasmin, but I decided to not question it and just begin with that. It's been 3 months, and while there has been no miracle regrowth, I do feel I am not having massive shedding as I did before it. What route are you considering now?

Yaz has decreased my shed

I have been taking YAZ for about six months now, after taking Yasmin for about 3 years, and in the last couple of weeks have experienced more shedding than I ever had in my lifetime.

Ok - the thing about Yaz vs Yasmin - some people's bodies respond better to more estrogen and some people respond better to less. More estrogen is not neccessarily the answer. Its a question of balancing hormones in a way that's right for your body.

You are most likey experiencing a TE from the drop in estrogen - similar to what women experience post-partum....
