Thinking of getting a hair piece. Please reply. (Wigs)

Hi! Have gotten to the stage where I can't face going out anymore as look so bald. Would really appreciate advice from anyone who wears a hair piece. I still have hair but it's very thin, sides have gone and it's see through at front. Thanks very much. Calysto

I dont wear a wig and hopefully wont have to if this damned hair would regrow but if I got to the point where I had bald patches and it was affecting my confidence or giving me anxiety I would definetely look at this option. In fact it gives me a little comfort to know that there is always that option. You would need a very good one though and not one of those cheaper types that are more for fun.

i've been looking into wigs online and it seems that a Front Lace wig is highly undetectable and many celebrities (beyonce, tyra banks, and jessica alba in her new movie) seem to wear them. this type of wig is made so that that the hair look like they are growing out of your head. and each stand is hand placed. and it's made with 100% human hair usually. they are usually on the expensive side-- starting from about $400-500 and up to $900 i believe.

does anyone have any experience with these wigs? please respond if you have any info on these wigs or if you know anyone who wears them.

thanks!

I'm sorry to hear about your hair loss. The good news is that you don't have to be embarrassed about your hair anymore.

You have a couple of options. One is a full wig (also called a full cap) and the other is an integration piece, which allows you to pull your own hair up through the base to blend with the hair on the hairpiece.

The full cap is your best bet - integration pieces can be a pain to wear and the results depend on how much natural hair you have left.

Modern hair systems are made with materials that are very light and breathable - even the hairline can look very natural. You can wear 24/7 or you can remove it every night - it's up to you. The important thing is to buy from a reputable seller. If you do not have a reputable seller locally - check with friends, Better Business Bureau, etc. There are on-line sellers of high quality pieces made with excellent human hair (European hair is the best).

hey there,

my hair is very thin on the crown and my doctors treat me like an idiot because i'm only 26 and have less hair than my boyfriend.

people do not notice it unless i point it out, but i agonize over it in the mirror every day. maybe they do notice but i'm overly paranoid when anyone so much as glances at my scalp.

anyhoo, i havent got a wig yet but planning to soon. as another person posted, so so many celebrities wear them or they have one inch long hair and the rest is extensions.

there are some wigs that you can swim with, pull on, etc and they dont come off and people cant even tell the difference.

although i may not totally need a wig yet, i'm getting one because i'm driving myself crazy. so feel confident in your choice, do what you feel is best. we have to start feeling good about ourselves again.

I've been wearing an integration-style (clip-on) topper for over a year now. While I'm not thrilled to have to do this, I am very glad that there is a cosmetic solution to my hair problems. I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have.

shorty

I am 31 and my boyfriend, his mom, AND dad all have more hair than me!!!!
I just ordered a wig. Its a human hair wig, 24 inches long, brown with blondish highlights....My boyfriend says I do not "need" a wig and I am desparately trying to convince him to be "ok" with me wearing one..its hard..
like you, no one notices I have hair loss unless I point it out (Which is bad enough!). But I AGONIZE every day about it.

Hi Lily, I have gotten a clip on topper piece but havent had the courage to wear it yet. It's an integration type one (though i asked for fewer holes to pull my natural hair through as i didnt want to spend so long on it). Tommorow i am going to the place that made this piece for me, and to meet other south asian females who wanted to meet someone of the same ethnicity with the same problem! I'm hoping it will give me the encouragement to start wearing the topper. I got it made bespoke and not too "heavy" with hair as i want it to look as natural as possible.

How is it going for you? Is your topper an integration clip on one (as in do you pull it all through yourself through many or fewer holes?), or more of a "cap" one where you dont pull any of your hair through? How is it taking it off? Also, if you dont mind, do you wear it daily? Thanks for all your help! :)

Yes, it is an integration piece, but I don't pull that much of my bio hair through, just enough to cover the mesh where the "part" area is. There are 4 clips--when I'm around the house I will undo one or two, just to lessen any tension, but I haven't had any pain or evident traction alopecia yet. Even with not a lot of hair, there is a visual difference. I got a lot of comments when I first started wearing it--I simply told the truth, that I was going to a new hairdresser who did a much better job with the cut and color. Didn't elaborate further. People seem to be used to it by now. I do wear it daily and I hate taking it off at night and going back to my crappy bio hair. Maybe one of these days I'll think about bonding and wear it 24/7.

Lily - are you expecting traction alopecia, as you said you dont have any "yet"? I'm currently wearing hair extensions. My 2nd set so far. Hair is still rapidly thinning. I will probably give my hair a break early June and have them removed for a few weeks as it cant be good for the hair, even though mine are fibre extensions and not bonded with glue or anything. Hmmm...such a time consuming and costly process all this hair loss :(

Traction alopecia can occur--it's a good idea to move the clips around every so often. And whenn I'm just around the house, I'll unclip a couple or use bobby pins to hold the piece on.
