my spin (Scalp Pain, Tight Scalp) |
My head burning is in direct corrilation with hl. I know this because it will happen right before my period, when hl is the worse. Again as I have said in other forums my hair loss completely stopped when on was on vivelle patch 050. I was also using rogain 5% but becareful. I still have my period so my dr. said progesterone was not neccessary. My testosterone level is not high but at the upper end but dr redmond said my body could be sensitive . My hl cont because estrogin affects your thyroid so it threw things off. But its an option. Dr redmond stated that he believes it's the progesterone not the estrogin that is related to breast cancer . I have heard different from other doctors so I do not choose to go that route.

I'm glad to hear that your hair loss stopped on Vivelle! I'm also a patient of Dr Redmond. He recommended that I use the vivelle patch plus take the Yasmin tablets. I'm scared to take both! He also suggested Avodart...any advise?

I don't see Redmond but one of my doctors told me that she thinks my hair loss is hormonal and to use yasmin. Now, yasmin can get a bad rap and my hair loss could be worse so I ran this by my gyn who didn't agree with using yasmin at my age...risk of a blood clot I guess. Anyway this gyn is nice but clueless about hair loss to start. However, I do think she has a legitimate concern re the yasmin and the levels of hormone being too high for my age and the risk of a clot. Just something to think about. Redmond isnt the only one thinking yasmin is good for this, just run it by your gyn first.
I'm not using yasmin, just trying to get past the hormonal thing. I do use OTC progesterone though. Saw several gyns who had no problem with it. I think my hair loss is a little better since I went back to using it.

Dutasteride is helpful in treatinG hair loss in women. ( But it is not apporved by FDA for the treatment of hair loss in women)
Effective treatment of female androgenic alopecia with dutasteride
J Drugs Dermatol. 2005 Sep-Oct;4(5):637-40
Dihydrotestosterone is the main molecule responsible for androgenic alopecia. Finasteride, which reduces transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone and decreases dihydrotestosterone activity, is approved for treatment of androgenic alopecia in men.
We describe the case of a 46-year-old woman with androgenic alopecia, non-responsive to minoxidil, who initially benefited from finasteride. Due to only limited improvement after finasteride and persisting profound psychological distress resulting from androgenic alopecia, another 5-reductase inhibitor, dutasteride, was introduced.
Clinical evaluation and trichogram were applied for assessment of dutasteride efficacy in this patient. Additionally, mean hair diameter was monitored by means of computer dermoscopy.
After 6 months of therapy, significant improvement was observed and after 9 months the clinical diagnosis of androgenic alopecia could no longer be made in this patient. No side effects were observed.
In conclusion, theoretical data and our experience in this case show that dutasteride might develop into a true alternative in treatment of androgenic alopecia.
