3 questions: Redmond/Shedding (Support Forum & Misc Topics)

Hello again all,

1.) Do any of you see an increased amount of shedding certain weeks of the month? It seems as if the first week in every month brings on a massive shed for me (at least the last two months it has). Is this because of women's cycles?
2.) I used to only wash my hair every two or three days because for people who have normal hair, washing everyday can strip the hair of its natural oils. Now I have to wash my hair everyday. It seems like if I dont wash it every day every time I so much as touch my hair at least two strands are in my hands. Anyone else have this observation?
3.) Last one - Dr. Redmond. I've gone with my mother. 600 bucks is wayyy expensive. Its 1200 out of pocket every time we go. I was shocked to read on this forum "all he gives out is yasmin and 200 mg of spiro" because that is exactly what I am on! Its been six months or so and I havent seen any improvement. He wants me to go on Propecia, and if I was done with having kids I would consider it, but im 20...and the side effects are pretty scary for me. I really need to find something else to take because I'm starting to obsess over my hair loss. I've been going to therapy and feeling bad...I just wanna be happy again :). Any other docs that you would recommend? What about other treatments that have worked?

Thanks :)

Yes, my shed seems higher at certain times in my cycle. I believe hormones play a big part in hair loss. I also have to wash my hair every day, since it's become so thin. It just looks oilier now. As for Redmond, I think that his subsequent visits are cheaper than the initial visit. Still, he didn't help me too much, because I have other things going on, that he didn't diagnose either. I am not convinced he's worth the cost. I did feel he was the first doctor who took me seriously, but I could see a therapist for a lot less $ if all I wanted was a sympathetic ear. His book is good though. I know how frustrating it is, I've always said the hardest part is finding a good, knowledgeable doctor. I've been looking for 5 yrs now and have yet to find one. You have to do your own research, don't rely on doctors because they don't consider hair loss a medical problem. I disagree with that, hair loss is a symptom of something. Find out what that something is, and maybe you can stop the hair loss. That's my theory anyway.
