holistic endo ? (Doctors & Dermatologists) |
I am really frustrated in the search for a good doctor. Of course, my hair loss is a big part of it, but I also have adrenal fatigue, which makes me feel bad most of the time. I feel the hair loss is related to the health issues, but when dealing with endocrine disorders, its very difficult to get help. I know, you would think an endocrinologist would be perfect, but endo's tend to be totally "stick to the numbers on the labs" people. As far as adrenal fatigue, doctors don't consider it a real condition, they only consider addison's disease as a legitimate heatlh issue. The problem is, addison's doesn't just magically appear, I am well on my way there with my adrenal fatigue and I guess until I develop fully blown addison's, I won't get medical help. I've been to Dr Ash, a holistic dr, and he has been helpful, but he seems to specialize in GI problems, and is not really an adrenal expert. What I really would like to find is a holistic endocrinologist in the metro NY area. You'd think in NYC that would be easy, right? So far, no luck. And, of course one that takes insurance would be helpful, although I am sure that is impossible. So, if anyone knows of a good holistic endo in NY, please please let me know. I am 25 and so tired of feeling sick, I want to feel young and healthy like all my friends. Sorry to sound like poor me, I know we are all suffering with the hair loss, but sometimes it just gets to me. For 5 years now I have been losing hair and feeling crappy and I just want to find a way to feel better and get my hair back.

Hi Amy,
I know we have spoken before as we have the same health issues. I'm hypo with AF and candida. Are you not on anything for your adrenals? I'm on hydrocortisone and it is helping alot also on armour. Can't remember for sure if you have been over to check out www.stopthethyroidmadness.com or not. That's where I've been getting all my advice and help. I've had to resort to self medicating as docs were just useless.
There is a Dr. Margaret Gedde in Colorado that many on that board are using by phone consults and having success. The first consult is free and I think she spends either one or one and half hours with you the first time. If you are interested her number is 719-239-0643 and site is www.natural-hormone-balance.net. If I decide I need a doc again I'm thinking of giving her a try. She treats thyroid and adrenals.
I've been sick for five years as well and it sucks!!!!

Thnks, Deb. Yes, I do go to stop the thyroid madness too. It's very helpful. Val seems to think my problem is mainly adrenals, and that I need to get them back to normal before taking armour. But, I've used licorice and other supplements and although I do feel somewhat better, I don't think it's enough. I have started using isocort, but again, I don't think its enough. I hate trying to self medicate, but feel like there is no alternative. Cortisol can be tricky, too much can be bad too. But, there just doesn't seem to be a doctor who will treat me. It's very frustrating.

Amy.
I think we've spoken before and have similar issues. I'm low testosterone, low DHEA, subclinical hypo, adrenal fatigue, and crazy hair loss. I've thought estrogen deficiency as well although my last saliva test revealed mild estrogen dominance! I am getting advice from STTM and am amazed at the information I am receiving! Also a patient of Dr. Ash although I've been quite disappointed by my lack of progress. I did the whole GI test and found to have low stomach acid and he also discovered a nodule and mild enlargement of my thyroid. As a result, did an uptake scan (negative - good!)and visited a gastroenterologist who tested me for celiac (negative - good!). But what do I know now? Not a whole lot other than the fact that I have wacky hormones that no one knows how to stabilize. Dr. Ash does not want to address adrenal fatigue or estrogen dominance now. I had to almost beg for Armour T and was started on a dose of 1 grain - which was probably too high for my sensitive body. Decided on my own to get Isocort (STTM) and developed severe headaches as a result of everything. Have since backed down Armour T to 1/2 grain and working on increasing Isocort much more slowly. Headaches still exist but are tolerable. I live in NYC and if I learn of a good holistic Dr knowledgelable in adrenals/thyroid, I will let you know. The hair loss is ridiculous and I'm at my wit's end. Wish you the best and feel free to contact me.
