Female hormones and thyroid (Menopause, Peri-menopause & Hair Loss) |
Hi everyone
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid, with low ferritin. I started loosing about 150 to 270 hairs a day after the birth of my son, almost 2 years ago. I have been taking synthroid for over 3 months, but has only seen a very small change in hairloss, maybe about 10 to 15 hairs less a day. Should I be more patient? or look for another treatment.
Also...I seem to get a very itchy scalp, starting prior to my period and then decreasing a few days after my period, so I know that my hairloss may be caused by multiple factors. I am 36 y old and in addition am experiencing fatigue, low grade depression and extremely dry skin.
Has anyone had simmilar experiences that you may be willing to share or do you have any information that my apply to my situation.
I think the most important course of action is to get a good doctor that will have the knowledge to look at the whole hormonal picture...but I am at a total loss as to where to find such a docter.
I live in Columbus, GA and could travel to Atlanta....anyone here with a lead for me?
Thank you so much in advance for your replies.

I personally hate synthroid. I know someone who switched to armour and now her hair is fine. It was falling out with synthroid. Dry skin is a sign of hypothyroidism...maybe you are still at the point where you need to adjust the dose of synthroid. I'd give it more time, 3 months doesn't seem long enough.
