to admin or anyone out there... (Flutamide) |
Isn't anyone taking this?
My doc just prescribed it and said she had great reasults with her female patients. I am scared of the side effects but I'll risk it.
Admin or anyone..what do you think about this drug?

Hey Ayme -
I saw your post and did some research on this stuff and it seems like a viable option. It has had scary side affects in men (man boobs, yikes!) but I didn't see anything on negative side affects on women. Of course the fact that it can spawn female sex organs in our counterparts isn't a very comforting idea, but who knows? We should probably find some scientific evidence that it is safe for us. Is it FDA approved?
I'm seeing my gyno next week and may ask her about this. Was it only prescribed to you based on a high level of androgen? In which case I would need my hormones tested, evidencing the fact that such a drug would be effective for me? Or would it be effective for anyone w/ hairloss regardless of hormone levels? I wonder if my dr. will even know about it....
Keep posting anything you find and I'll do the same

PS - what is your story? age? how long have you been experiencing HL, etc? You replied to my story the other day so you should remember me

hi there1 My story started in April with sudden loss for no reason. The docs all said it was TE and that it would stop in a few months...boy where they off!
I don't have higher than normal androgens, but the doc said that most women who have hair loss don't...they are just hypersensitive to the levels they do have in their bodies. I still don't know if I buy her DX as I have other symptoms, but so far my BW is ok.
I am 27 and i have been losing about 300 hairs each day since april. I have very little left and I am desperate. I am going to give this a go as she said she has had great results with it in her female pateints...she has had a lot of women actually regrow hair. I could eally use some hair.
I hope you are doing well, and I am glad you are getting in with your gyno!1 Do have have a list of tests for her to run? Please go in their armed and ready to get your answers!
Take Care

Are you using an anti androgen shampoo? Honestly, I don't know is anything I am doing is helping or it is just the natural hormone fluctuation but I was told this can stop on its own in many cases. I wish I started experimenting earlier, now I am trying a lot of shampoos..did you try any of them? My shed is getting a bit better now but I am not seeing tremendous regrowth only a bit. Have you looked into spectral rs? Hairsite has some info on it I believe. The flutamide is often used for women with PCOS symptoms. Maybe someone on the PCOS board can tell you about it or there is another board on PCOS (sorry, I can't remember the name of it) but you can google it and it will come up on a search...try PCOS message board. Somone on that board should be on it if it treats PCOS. Hope you do well with it.

»I've been using the revivogen system for about 2 months an dI can't say I have seen a difference. Honestly, nomoresheds, I don't think my DX should be AGA. I know that I have miniaturization, but I am losing 300 a day everywhere on my head as well as other parts of the body. I'm sure my derm thinks I am in denial but i have so many other symptoms.
anyway, I am going to combat it from this angle and hope that it helps and doesn't make it work. Feeling sad today....

»I have had 2 biopsys the first came back fine ansd the second showed miniaturization and that is it. That is literally all the paper said-AGA presence of miniaturized follicles. i just don't see how you can loose 300 hairs or more a day in AGA. It goes against everything I have ever read abpout this disease. And yes, it is a disease.

I believe that low ferritin can cause a lighter pigmented, thinner hair (intermediate hair?). Would that be considered miniaturization? I have these intermediate hairs and do not have AGA but my ferritin is low.
