YASMIN (PCOS & Hair Loss)

posted by V, 05.10.2007, 11:51

For some people it isn't necessarily the amount of androgens you have but the fact that your hair follicle is sensitive to the DHT produced by testosterone. This is the case with the majority of women who loose their hair...most of them have normal androgens, just that sensivity.

Yasmin can help in a couple of ways. First the estrogen in it will help raise SHBG which will bind to the tesstosterone and keep it from being converted to DHT.

Also the progesterone in Yasmin is the equivalant of 25 mgs of Aldactone (Spiro), which can further add in helping the sensitivity.

In additin, since your periods are nto regular and hormonal fluctuations are bad for your hair, it will regulate your cycle and keep your hormones in check.

Will it help your hair?
It very well could. For some people Yasmin and other BCP's have been life savers, and have helped stop the shedding and regrow hair. Others have had very negative experieinces as you have no doubt read.

I think if you are already losing hair and in a bad situation, with your periods being crazy and a PCOS DX, then you should give it a try.
