ť Hi Julie...I stopped taking the Spiro really quickly (after only 2 months)
ť not because it wasn't working (I wasn't on it long enough to see) but I had
ť conflicting treatment mandates from different derms. My first derm said to
ť attack as much androgenic activity as I could (even though my levels were
ť all normal except a slightly high, although normal range DHEA-S which he
ť thought was just from my being an athlete) through taking Spiro 100 mg (50
ť 2x/day like you) AND Propecia 1 mg/day. My body simply could not handle so
ť much assault on its regularity and I didn't do well on the two together; I
ť have low blood pressure normally (again, from being a runner) and I tend
ť towards dizziness because of orthostatic hypotension PLUS I have a
ť mitrovalve prolapse (benign heart irregularity) but it means I have to
ť stay SUPER hydrated (for the heart) and on the Spiro I gained 6 pounds
ť within those two months even though its a mild diuretic but my body
ť fiercely went in the opposite direction and held onto EVERY drop of water
ť it could because it needed to (plus the body is thrust into an estrogen
ť dominance because of the lowered androgens), went up a cup size (from
ť reduced androgens), had periods every three weeks, and was tired tired
ť tired. I am just obviously really hormonally vulnerable and so I saw two
ť other derms at this point to get second & third opinions and they both
ť said stop the Spiro, your body can't handle it, but keep on the Propecia
ť and see how you do. Immediately my periods went back to normal and I'm
ť not as tired but I'm still up the boob size and weight, 1 1/2 years later.
ť Plus, I have the issues of hypothyroidism I'm being treated for AND I was
ť near-anemic so these factors sort-of make my dx uncertain. But I must say
ť the Spiro had some sort of effect even in those few months (although not on
ť my hair) because my skin was plump, glowing and gorgeous as in pregnancy,
ť and I know some gals have really been helped by it. I think eb had side
ť effects and couldn't tolerate it, either, but everyone's individual and I
ť remember reading one gal who had lost weight on it because of its diuretic
ť properties. It just wasn't for me, but I wish the best of luck to you,

Hey FG, I could have written that paragraph on spiro myself, point for point, aside from the weight gain (I didn't retain water or weight. Spiro did a number on my metabolism and I lost 6 pounds eating more doing less)! I wish I could've kept my increased boobage. But, soon as I stopped, they deflated into two pathetic raisins, while I packed on all the weight I'd lost...only on my BUTT and HIPS (trust me, I didn't need any there). This all just in the matter of 2-3 weeks I've been off.

Spiro pushed my formerly perfect thyroid into hypo, bled out all the ferritin I worked 8 months to store to 70, plus all manner of other problems. I'm praying my thyroid goes back to normal on its own soon. FG, another gal my age, and I are the only ones I can think of who reacted this way. My labs came back with out of range high E, guess that's why I was bleeding every 2 weeks (high E stimulates uterine lining) and having bad headaches at the end.

Still, I was willing to handle the irregular, frequent bleeding, (some of) the headaches, the fatigue and moving around in molasses feeling, if it had kept working, but it suddenly started working against me. I REALLY miss my skin at the height of spiro though, it's back to being a disaster again. I must be the only hyperoily, hyperacne 27 year old in the world with wrinkles.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but if you are regular, non-PCOS, with normal or low androgens, it's probably best to combine spiro with a BCP, which I can't take. If I'd been on both, I may not have had these problems (I had perfect cycles, so spiro messed that up big time, meaning it not only messed up my individual normal hormone levels, but the hormone values in relation to one another as well. The girls who respond well to and are regularized by spiro typically tend to have messed up cycles to begin with).

So, FG are you still on 1mg Propecia and only Propecia? Any effect? And any messed up cycles? (PLEASE NO. I'm thinking Avodart soon.)
