Response to LisaS from FG - 2nd Time! (Propecia, Finasteride for Women)
» Hi FG-
»
» Thanks for your encouragement; hopefully, with all the things that I am
» doing together with the removal of my fibroids, I am only going to improve
» and not get any worse. Anyway, that is my mantra! The reason I am not
» cycling is that I am using bioidenticals on a continual basis without
» stopping, kind of like those new birth control pills where you don't get a
» period. My dr. had me do that just to keep my hormones at a steady level
» following my surgery. I am seeing him in November and he is going to
» revisit that. I will tell you that after upping my spiro to 50 from 25,
» my breasts are so sore - I don't know if I can handle the increased
» dosage. I don't know whether I am ovulating on this hormone regimen that
» I'm on. Would I be able to tell from my labs? I know you've been taking
» the finesteride slightly longer than I have. I think you said you haven't
» noticed increased thickness, but your hair hasn't gotten any worse, has it?
» I haven't had the sides you've mentioned from taking the 2.5 Proscar. Do
» you think that what you're experiencing could just be peri and not the
» Proscar? Its so frustrating. Anyway, thank you for your informative and
» supportive posts.
Hi again Lisa...Sorry so long to respond; I may have told you I don't go online except maybe a few times a week and I just got this response from you. To answer your questions, yes, the hair has continued to thin, just not horribly and I shed just a little more than I used to on a normal basis before the hair thinning. Before I noticed my hair thinning three years ago, I barely shed any hair after washing and throughout the day; I'd say maybe 20 hairs after washing. Now it's maybe 35-40/day after washing...I only wash every other day or once every three days. But...I know for a fact the hair cycles are shorter (truncated) and the hair is taking longer to replace the shed hairs. My sides are DEFINITELY not just peri; DEFINITELY anti-androgen related that came on like I said fast and strong within a month and a half with the Spiro/Proscar combo and didn't abate with the cessation of the Spiro. My hormones were tested maybe 9 months ago (need to be retested soon) and they're all mid-range and I ovulate on the clock still and get girltime on the clock. These sides are all consistent with anti-androgen therapy...the CONSTANTLY sore and enlarged boobs, the weight gain, the tiredness. I actually just quit the Proscar last week to give my body time to go back to normal....we'll see what happens w/ my hair. Some men have gone off the propecia/proscar and their gynecomastia (breast tissue enlargement/soreness) has remained permanently
. My mom, however, who's on Propecia 1 mg/day, didn't notice any sides, but she's post-menopausal. I read one study that described that the extra T floating around in one's system (Free T increase) from not being turned into DHT (due to the finasteride) can turn into extra E in the systems of some people!! This happened to eb and I think it's happened to me. My boobs are ginormous and SORE and they used to be a regular 34-B!! So....keep me posted and I'll do the same! Take care....FG
