Scheduled to start but now a bit freaked out (PCOS & Hair Loss)
Okay so I have been going to the Dr since July for my hair loss. I am shedding alot more then normal and new hair is just not filling back in. My scalp also gets a tingling type feeling from time to time that drives me nuts! The Dr never took me seriously, chalking it up to stress and such. After 4 trips and some now noticeable patches of hair loss that I cannot hide anymore she finally took me seriously. I have probably lost 30% or more of my hair at this point. Finally, last month, she ran a full panel of blood work and tested for everything under the sun. One of my DHEA tests came back slightly elevated (the other was DHEA-S which she said covered a longer period of time) and testostrone was normal, although high normal. Everything else came back in the normal range (all the other hormones, cortisol, thyroid etc.) My periods are regular, although I do get some decent cramping so we did an ultrasound to check for PCOS. Ultrasound showed nothing abnormal. Her attitude was basically "yes I can see your hair is thinning but really there is nothing you can do." After more persistents on my part, she finally sent me to an Endrocologist last week.
Again she ran a few more tests that came back fine and said that she thinks I may be overly sensitive to testostrone. I also have some hair growth on my chin and a bit on my stomach. This gal had no bedside manners out all, she was like, "geez your just hairy all over aren't you. I see women with this problem all the time now, too bad there's nothing I can really do to help them!" She wants me to start Yasmin saying that should at least help some and can add spiro in a few months if it isn't helping, but now I am reading how this pill is causing so many people to lose their hair and I am kinda scared to start it. Is anyone having luck with this or is everyone starting it and losing more hair then before? She also mentioned Rogaine but honestly I have heard some real horror stories about missing a few doses and hair all falling out so I am nervous about touching that too.I have no confidence in the system at all anymore! If anyone knows of a good Endrocolgist or Derm in MN (metro area) plese let me know as I am thinking it is time for a switch!
I did lose about 50 lbs over the last 1.5 years and still have about 35lb more to go. At first I thought I was restricting my calories too much but have been taking daily multi vitamins and increasing calories but that did not help at all.
I am a single 29 year old who is REALLY freaked out right now. My self esteem was bad enough before but who on earth is going to want a bald 29 year old! I could just cry. In part because of frustration and part because no one really seems to give a darn. It's almost like a joke to them.
Anyone here ever tried the topical Hair Genesis puts out?
