Can someone help me understand my shocking hair loss? (Accutane or Medications Induced Hair Loss)
yes, stress can cause hair loss, it happened to my sister when my parents divorced. however it was just one patch and it grew back quickly.
from what you wrote, it sounds like you have pcos. do you also have problems with body hair or just hair loss?
doctors often do hormonal tests at the wrong time of the month. hormones do fluctuate and there is a prime time of the month to test them in women. all of my hormone tests also come back "normal" but they definitely are not, something is wrong.
i have come to discover that i basically have to tell my doctors what i have and what medications i want to treat it. they are so oblivious to female hair loss. it cant be that rare if all of us are suffering from it.
i am 26 so i feel your pain. i wish i could ask you more questions? do you have acne again? are you really oily or sweaty? what does the hair loss look like?
people have had success with niozoral, nioxin, and revivogen. i, personally, use the over the counter niozoral and nioxin #3. they both help me slow down the loss. but they are not going to stop you from balding. you need to fix your body's physiology (from the inside out.)
if you do in fact have pcos, many people have benefited from the drug metformin and a bcp. but i have to warn you, these pills have terrible side effects. bcps caused my hair loss to begin but if you have pcos, they may work differently for you. spironolactone is also a very good anti-androgen, it will help control body hair, acne, and oiliness but you have to combine it with birth control pills to see maximum results and to avoid having a period more than once a month.
if you think you just have messed up hormones, you should consider a lighter route: bioidentical hormones. they have less side effets and some have said they have helped their hair loss.
its hard to get help when you are as young as you are because the doctors say only menopausal women have these problems, but its just not true.
if you want to look up side effects of any of the medications you are considering, check out askapatient.com. it has consumer reviews.
i also read you took accutane, that can cause hair loss too.
hope this helps, sorry so long. email me if you need. i check it regularly.
