Alopecia Areata cannot be "prevented" by taking precautions. It is a autoimmune disorder where your immune system attacks hair follicles and does not know when to shut off. If you have Alopecia Areata, know that it cannot be prevented. I suffered from it when I was 14. Lost almost all my hair. had about 5 big bald spots, had to wear a wig. Since then I have had 2 other recurrances of one small spot. Unfortunately nothing can be done except get into a derm as soon as you see one spot coming on and they can inject it with an anti-inflammitory. It is aways good to take vitamins and be healthy regardless.
