This is it, and this is the first question i think i posed on this forum. Is thinning the same as shedding? One is a physical detachment of the hair from the head, and the other is just hair not growing back or, if it does grow back, it grows back as vellus / fine hair. Mine is the latter - i never shed physical hair so to see it in my hand/pillow/on the floor etc, but my hair thinned and what was once thick hair is now very fine lifeless and vellus type hair. Does that make sense? Maybe some of the hair hasnt grown back thereby reducing the overall density of my scalp hair, or maybe the hairs that have grown through their natural cycle have gradually miniturised. I and Dr Fenton think it is the latter.

So, shed is both continouous thinning/miniturisation AND physical visible hair loss from the scalp hair - this is what Dr Fenton said, and this is what, i think V, said on here when i first came on. I too was confused at first!

Wow! That is good to know Carly. Sounds like it was TE then, or are you still shedding? Perhaps regular scalp tests are what is needed?

He hasnt said that to me. He said i have female patterned hair loss (AGA) even based on the 18% v. 3% shedding rate, because the pattern of hair loss is that typical of AGA just by visibly looking at my hair densities. On top/sides/crown area i have very thin hair. The lower back is still thicker but not as thick as before.

I have fine baby hairs in various places on the scalp. Given my overall hair density has reduced, this is no way new hair coming out. Around the front hairline which has noticeably thinned from being on dianette Dr Fenton said the existing hairs had become vellus/miniturised.

I think it was last around 1.59 (September). That is up from 1.29 in July. I'm awaiting further results this week when my GP can be asked letting me know. At least with private i would have had someone call me within 7 days!

Carly how is your hair now? Are you on a BCP for it? I dont know what your diagnosis is. And what do you think of Dr Fenton?
