Although I live in DC now, I was in Miami for Christmas, and scheduled a consultation with Dr. Jeffrey Epstein, a transplant specialist. I'm 28 and am still awaiting the results of a scalp biopsy, so it's way too early to tell what's going on with my hairloss, but I figured it could be valuable to get as many viewpoints as possible (especially when it's free).
The photos on the website were what impressed me, so I called and was able to set up an appointment right away. I expected to be meeting with an assistant, but I got to talk to him directly (an assistant does come in to explain the procedure, but he came in 15 mins after that).
I told him I consider surgery a last resort, and for my particular case, he agreed. He suggested I get an Endo workup for possible PCOS, etc., and said that with my coloring (dark hair & very pale scalp) the results of FUE, however well-done, would be slightly less impressive. He discussed the anecdotal evidence relating to the Lasercomb, Nioxin (which he recommended, but said it's strictly cosmetic, in increasing the hair volume), and recommended I fix my diet and wait before getting a procedure.
I was quoted $5800 for 1500 grafts.
I'm just putting this info out there in case it's helpful to anyone. There are a few specialists in South Florida (Bauman is another familiar name) - he just happened to be the first one I came across.
