Hi Squeaky,
I'm not doctor but if you've never had any hair loss your entire life and now 57 I would just about bet your problem is low estrogen. Delilah is pretty knowledgeable with this particular issue so you may want to search posts under her name. I'm 50 and just started having this last June however I seem to have a few other issues due to perimenopause which seems harder to get settled. I feel your best bet is an endocrinologist. How long have you not had a period, etc? Get your estradiol level tested to see if its low. Have you had any signs like hot flashes, interrupted sleep, dry eyes etc.? If this is your true problem you may be able to get it taken care of by acting quickly. You mentioned going to NY. I have seen Dr. Redmond in NY as has delilah and a few others. Some do not care for him, others do. He is expensive but if you live in NY you could probably get in fairly soon right now. He does not take insurance. Fee is 600.00 initial visit and you would need to have some tests in advance or get it done there close by. Im sure there other doctors there too. I am in Texas and do not know many near your area. Your feelings are certainly warranted. We all experience what you mentioned. Its horrifying. Hang in there and do your research. You can post a message to delilah for more information on Dr. Redmond or your problem.
