Does minoxidil prevents death of folicules? (Rogaine, Minoxidil)

» Hi,
» I've read about minoxidil and as far as I have been able to figure out,
» minoxidil lengthens the time a hair growth. I.e., without minoxidil the
» hair falls out sooner. BUT, does it prevent death of follicles?
»
» Ie., does it truly help to slow/stop hair loss OR
» does it make hair appear fuller only by keeping hairs growing longer,
» while underneath DHT keeps killing hair follicles?
»
» I am trying to understand what happened to me since I used rogaine for

» actually very much progressed.

Yes! Below is a study posted by Hairsite in the men's forum. You are correct that minoxidil works by extending the the anagen phase of the follicle, thus preventing apoptosis (cell death.) However, it does not inhibit DHT from doing it's dirty work, - so adding an anti-androgen such as spiro, flutamide, or CPA, or adding a DHT inhibitor such as finasteride (Propecia) or Avodart would be optimal to combat AGA.
