You are surely right wanting a real solution. If your derm calls your hairloss CTE he just says you have chronic hairloss and gives no reason for that hairloss - so it can still be hormonal.
I think that nearly all cases of hairloss are hormonal - either high androgens/over-sensitivity to androgens or fluctuating/low estrogen or thyroid or a combination of two or more. Perimenopause is a hormonal thing, so your hairloss most probably is hormonal, too. Peri-/menopause is not just hot flushes but can be much more: joint pain, palpitations....HAIRLOSS aso. Have your read the books by Dr E. Vliet and Dr. Redmond? Very enlightening!
I think you didn't have hair issues before, right? So my guess is estrogen...

If you don't mind me asking, what made your gyn determine that your hl was
