apple cider vinegar (Scalp Inflammation, Irritations & Dermatitis)
Hi Kim
That's a good one and I've used it too. If I use it too often, my hair gets very dried out, tho. Here's a suggestion for the itching, burning feeling: Gold Bond Medicated Body Powder. It's the stuff in the bright orange cannister--kind of an old fashioned looking label.
The main ingredients are zinc and menthol. Sprinkle a generous amount on your scalp where it itches or hurts and gently rub it in. It'll make your scalp feel great, very soothing. Also an added benefit is that it makes your hair look a lot fuller (but I woudn't go out with it like that...it makes your hair look a little gray). And I find that I don't lose as many hairs rubbing powder on my scalp as I do when I rub any kind of oil (emu, etc) on my scalp.
I don't know if it corrects the causes of the itching/burning but I think it might help. A lot of natural hair loss remedies use zinc. Zinc has healing properties...so it may be physically beneficial. But mostly I use it to stop the irritation so I can STOP thinking about my HL! When your scalp hurts all day, it's hard not to think about it. With the Gold Bond Powder, I can actually forget about it for a few hours.
In fact, I got the idea from another HL board where the guy said he put GB powder on his scalp, rubbed it in and then sprayed his scalp with a diluted solution of ACV. He said it stopped his HL. It sounds messy to me...I haven't tried it yet. But the powder is my new daily treatment for the days I don't leave the house.
