Opinions?? (Telogen Effluvium)
Hi,
I am new to this site and have read so many of the posts. I've gotten much more information here that I've gotten at my regular doctor, so I thought I would ask for some opinions on what is going on with my hair.
In Sept. '07 I started to lose a TON of hair. I've always shed a lot of hair, but it never really mattered to me because I had a ton to spare. In September I noticed that there seemed to be hair everywhere. ALL OVER the bathroom floor, the sink, the drain, the back of my shirt, my pillow...it was just everywhere. I counted 150 in the bathroom one morning last month, and that didn't count the ones that come out all day long all over me and the house. The majority of the hairs seem to be the longest ones on my head, and all have the "bulb" on the ends. I had read on one site that that's very characteristic of TE, but then on another it said that that's common in AGA as well?? I have daily stresses in my life, and have had a LOT of stressful things happen in the past ten years (violent marriage, accidental death of my young daughter, death of my dad)...I've had rashes, gastritis, and cold sores in response to stress, could this be another physical symptom of the stress I carry?? How does someone know if it's AGA or CTE?? My dad was balding by 40, my brother is nearly bald at 36. I am 37.
I went to my pcp twice in December and all tests came back normal. She told me that I didn't have Lupus or Rhuematoid Arthritis,ok, so what do I have?? I am going back to her yet again on Tuesday. Are there specific tests I should be asking for?? I have not gone to my dermatologist, because apparently since I've had a diagnosis of "hairloss" from my pcp, my insurance company will not cover any other doctor's opinion (?) So, any opinions on my situation would be appreciated. The only other real symptoms I have a trembly hands and EXTREME forgetfulness. I mean, it's really bad lately. I almost feel like going back to the doctor on Tuesday isn't worth the $18 co-pay, but I have to do SOMETHING.
