Menopause Vs. Loss when younger (Menopause, Peri-menopause & Hair Loss)

posted by GemmaUK, 05.06.2008, 17:02

Hi everyone - these are my first posts, so glad i've found this site, please bare with a relative newbie!

Im pretty sure im suffering from normal AGA due to my age/genetics and have begun researching the most popular anti-androgen drugs ive seen on this and other forums eg diane35,propecia,flutamide,spiro,yasmin. I had thought our only hope was regaine but this place has opened my eyes!

I know i need to see a good endocrinologist and get a proper diagnosis and my GP is usually very good so hoping for a good referall rather than just a derm.

I am a little confused and would appreciate any help on this question:

What would the major differences be, in terms of drug treatments, between treating AGA in 1) Someone who is Menopausal (peri and/or post) Vs. 2) Someone who is for example still in their 20s (and not showing any premature menopausal symptons/POF)?

I am confused on whether there is a definite difference in approach eg. menopausal women shouldn't use propecia/avodart or BCP, or women in their 20s shouldn't use spiro, (both egs prob totally wrong, see i am really not sure at all :) )

Any advice will be so gratefully appreciated, and sorry if this is in the wrong section. Luv Gem
