Estrogen........the best type for hair.....please help! (Menopause, Peri-menopause & Hair Loss)

posted by web_diva, 02.07.2008, 16:17

» hello ladies.........could you please help ?
»
» i thought this got through yesterday, but obviously not. Went to see an
» endocrinologist the day before last to explore the option of adding more
» estrogen to my current regime. Also took some old blood tests with me as
» have results at time that show too little estrogen (below normal levels).
» Discussed options for bcp and HRT. I asked if just estrogen could be added
» but he basically advised against it as it causes a build up of the lining
» and no bleed (was my understanding).
»
» Im very scared of the option of bcp for the basic reason of reading all
» the info on these forums over the last 3 years. He advised me on yasmin
» being the most hair friendly and marvellon coming a close second. i was on
» marvellon years before this curse so felt more comfortable, with that
» option i suppose. Asked about the type of estrogen provided in pill versus
» hrt. He reported EE is used in pill and E2 in HRT. He agreed that the
» latter was closer to natural estrogen but felt that the receptors on which
» the estrogen latches onto do not know the difference. I've read the
» opposite, but not sure of the source. For the pill i think it would be 3
» weeks on pill one week off. For HRT it would be three weeks E and last week
» progesterone. He said this option would be more difficult to manage periods
» etc and would go for the pill option.
»
» Its my understanding that the HRT option, like the pill also supresses any
» natural production to be replaced with doses given. One of my queries was
» if your levels were the still in the normal range but decreased all the
» same, would the doses provided in the pill increase these levels to the
» levels needed. I know you cant measure levels of E when on the
» pill.......as is my understanding. I also know some pills have more E in
» them than others. He confirmed not use pill with the hair unfriendly
» progesterone......norepr (cant remember the exact name).
»
» What are people's experiences ? Anyone been on marvellon (which i think is
» also desogen)? He confirmed that being on cypertrone acetate (for which i
» was on suppresses estrogen) and that spiro is more estrogen friendly in
» that respect. Also that the synergy between spiro and finasteride are what
» work best in terms of a combined approach. Further that adding the pill
» would be the right decision to maximise any chance of maintaining the
» pathetic hair i have at the moment. He felt that hair counting didnt
» reflect anything about the state or development of your hair.
»
» Basically need to make a decision.............
»
» Any info around personal experience would be very valuable
»
» thanks ladies
» salis

Hi Salis,

Your dr. seems to be giving you good advice. You might want to try 200mg Spiro (minimum) combined with one of the hair friendly bcps, Yaz, Yasmin, Mircette. I've just started Spiro and Yaz so we'll see what it does for me. My testosterone tests high and I'm having hirutism too. Exercise and Revivogen have slowed the hair loss considerably for me. Days I don't exercise, I lose 50 hairs, days I do, I lose 15. Revivogen shampoo has also helped slow the shed. I'm hoping the estrogen and spiro will help to regrow.

Good luck!
