To Mauri (Spironolactone, Aldactone)
I never took any meds before 49. All of a sudden I missed a period summer of 2006. I'd never had any problems before.(period was always 28 days exactly) then I had trouble sleeping, my eyes felt like they had sand in them, had trouble losing even a couple of pounds even though I sweated for over an hour a day. Then the period started getting heavier and shorter. No tests showed peri of course (even thru two gynos and endo and internist) Finally got a couple of little warm flashes and I knew what was going on. Dr. Redmond explained that hypothryoid issues sometimes begin during perimenopause and although my TSH was 3.8 and no ones else thought it was an issue, it was as I can see it now. My TSH is 1.6 now. As for your real question about how do I know its not the finasteride that is making my hair grow, I dont really. I originally refused to take all the meds Dr. Redmond prescribed in September but my hair continued to get worse. He told me my thyroid was not causing hair loss but that I would be better off regulating it since I was having the other issues too. He was right. My nails started growing again like they did 10 years ago. I was under the impression that finasteride mostly helps keep the hair you have, not so much makes it grow so much. However I may be wrong about that. Actually I think its the combination of things Im taking. I dont feel like I can quit any anytime soon because I dont know which one is doing the trick. I'll cross that road when the time comes and there is a reason I need to stop one of them. Hope I answered your question.
