anyone pre-meno and supplementing with estrogen ? (Birth Control Pills & Hair Loss)

Hi there,

I've been taking bio-identical estrogen to treat low levels of estrogen because of a pituitary gland and thyroid disorder. I should also be taking progesterone because I'm deficient in that as well, and it needs to be present to "oppose" or balance the estrogen and prevent a higher likelihood of cancer cell growth. BUT, I've been taking such a small dose and have not had any ill-effects....until now. I have the feeling that the bio-identical cream estrogen that I've been taking has gone bad or mutated in some way. Because now when I rub a little pea-size drop on a fatty area of my body, my skin breaks out on my face for days afterwards. When I don't put the estrogen on-- no breakouts. BUT, my hair falls out when I don't take the estrogen. So it seems to be a catch-22. I need to talk to my doctor about the possibility of the estrogen cream "turning". I am also just considering going on the pill to balance my hormones. Unfortunately Yasmin, Ortho-TriCyclin, and Lo-Estrin all made my hair fall out. So I'm hoping that something with a medium amount of estrogen and a low-dose of progesterone will do the trick. I've done some research and it seems like an older pill called Ovcon 35 might work. BTW, I'm 41 and perimenopausal.
