Female hormones and thyroid (Menopause, Peri-menopause & Hair Loss)
» Hi everyone
»
» I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid, with low ferritin. I started
» loosing about 150 to 270 hairs a day after the birth of my son, almost 2
» years ago. I have been taking synthroid for over 3 months, but has only
» seen a very small change in hairloss, maybe about 10 to 15 hairs less a
» day. Should I be more patient? or look for another treatment.
»
» Also...I seem to get a very itchy scalp, starting prior to my period and
» then decreasing a few days after my period, so I know that my hairloss may
» be caused by multiple factors. I am 36 y old and in addition am
» experiencing fatigue, low grade depression and extremely dry skin.
»
» Has anyone had simmilar experiences that you may be willing to share or do
» you have any information that my apply to my situation.
»
» I think the most important course of action is to get a good doctor that
» will have the knowledge to look at the whole hormonal picture...but I am at
» a total loss as to where to find such a docter.
»
» I live in Columbus, GA and could travel to Atlanta....anyone here with a
» lead for me?
»
» Thank you so much in advance for your replies.
I personally hate synthroid. I know someone who switched to armour and now her hair is fine. It was falling out with synthroid. Dry skin is a sign of hypothyroidism...maybe you are still at the point where you need to adjust the dose of synthroid. I'd give it more time, 3 months doesn't seem long enough.
