New to this fourm (Androgenetic Alopcia (AGA) Female Pattern)
Hi all - I've been lurking for a few weeks, so thought I'd post and see if I get a response (some of the posts seem old, but I guess it takes time to regrow hair!!)
I have found you gals to be very knowledgable about hair loss, so wanted to ask a few questions. I've been thinning/losing my hair for about 3 years. I've finally gone to the doctor in search of something that can help. It's so extremely depressing and affects every aspect of my life.
I went to the doctor earlier this month. She diagnosed me with AGA and put me on 1.25mg finasteride per day, and 5% Rogaine foam. She also did some blood work and found that my serum ferritin is low, as well as Vitamin D3.
Here's where all the questions start:
Rogaine - does this actually work?? She told me that in addition to actually making the hair thicker, it will also make the fine hairs on my face (upper cheeks) become longer. She said to put Nair on them and they won't grow back darker. Has anyone had this experience with Rogaine Foam 5%?
She also said it's going to make the fine hairs around my face become longer. When do you start seeing results with Rogaine?
Seum Ferritin and D3 - what does this have to do with AGA? I can't find anything that links low serum ferritn with AGA (nor D3 for that matter).
Finasteride - not many questions here as there were a ton of imformative posts which I've been reading.
Measuring how loss/growth - how do you count how many hairs you lose each day? I can't count them all. They are all over the place, so I'm not even sure to know how to start counting them. In the shower, they just was down the drain.
When the hair starts to re-grow, do you see fine hairs turn into mature/thick hair? I keep envisioning this happening to me, but I'm in the infancy of trying to get this to work.
