Having done some research, I have become convinced that Rushton is a con artist. A charismatic and convincing one, I'll give him that, but he told me lie after lie. The first time I saw him (I'm a bloke by the way - I'm just here because I want to warn other people about him), he said that if my hair loss was genetic, Propecia would "definitely" stop it. Days after I started taking Propecia, my hair turned to sh*** and started falling out like there was no tomorrow. Ah, no, it can't possibly be Propecia, he insisted: it must be because you're not washing your hair properly. I was washing it the same way I had been all my life!! So then I stop taking Propecia because of what it's doing to me. My hair goes back to normal within a few days. Then we repeat the cycle. Propecia has the same effect on me, I tell him, and he insists it can't be Propecia. Then we repeat the cycle once more. Each ten-minute visit at eighty pounds a pop.

He also told me I had a medical condition called Graham's Disease, which supposedly 2% of the population has. This was news to my GP, who said this was rubbish. Turns out Rushton isn't a medical doctor - he's a doctor of philosophy! And he uses Harley Street as an address, but his office isn't actually on it, it's on a side road. Another red flag I overlooked...

He also told me my hair was in poor condition and that he could smell it from where he was sitting. Well he must have the nose of a bloodhound, because no one else I know has ever been able to smell my hair! Then I tell him about the skin condition I used to have on my face and flared up from time to time. He then refers me to a Dr Gilkes, who charges me about Ł100 for a ten-minute consultation during which he prescribes me a cream costing Ł25 which, surprise surprise, does no good whatsoever.

After six months of this going back and forth, Rushton finally conceded that Propecia wasn't helping me (contradicting what he had previously said). But don't worry, he reassured me: all you need to do is keep taking it and start using my secret magic solution, which you'll need to apply twice daily. So I start using the solution, and guess what: it has no effect whatsoever.

On my last visit to his office, he told me he was dealing with a legal case as someone had sued him. Needless to say, I didn't go back after that. I'm glad someone had the wits about them to take him on, but doubtless some kindly old judge will have taken one look at the impressive-looking letters after his name and all his newspaper quotes (Rushton clearly has friends in the right places) and dismissed the case out of hand. It's about time the government regulated this industry!
