Hair Suddenly Coming Out in Handfuls (Support Forum & Misc Topics)

Merle,
Perimenopause seems to be the trigger to the hair loss. I'm 56,post menopausal, and I've been experiencing hair loss for 17 years. It started when I entered perimenopause. I've seen many dermatologists, and only one was very helpful. (We moved to another state just after I found her.) I go through times when I have shedding like you're experiencing, and times when there's less shedding. So, I understand how you feel. After finding this website, I read about endocrinologists and spirolactone. I made an appointment with an endo and requested spiro (after lots of lab work.). That was 2 months ago. I lose very few hairs now. I'm amazed. Spiro, at least for now, has really helped.
My advice would be to forget the dermatologist and see an endocrinologist. I wish that I'd done it years ago. They know about hormones and how to help you.
Good luck and I'm thinking of you.
